He's just speaking the truth. it doesn't fill you with confidence but it's nothing to get worked up about right now.

I'm not saying this is the case but I'd be extremely disappointed in him if he's genuinely willing to throw in the towel after one season on the fringes. He's still the best defender at the club in my eyes he just needs to knuckle down and show it.

He should be thriving off the competition now, dias has set a marker, stones' revival he says himself he's delighted for him, well next season it's upto him to step it up even more.

competition is what makes elite athletes improve, I'd like to think he's got it in him to take on the challenge.

Season 2018-19: 4,352 mins
Season 2019-20: 1,497 mins
Season 2020-21: 2,249 mins

Can understand his being anxious about game time. Still find it strange that he didn’t feature in any of the three closing league games, when Garcia did, and he hasn’t played now since Chelsea on May 8th.

It’s strange that we spent so long and so much coveting central defenders that would allow us to pair a left-footed and a right-footed combination, yet we have ended up relying on two right-footed central defenders.
I still think a combination would be better as it is more naturally balanced and would allow us to quicken our transitions, so I hope we can see them all involved more fully next season.

If he wants to play more he needs to play better when he gets a chance. Hasn’t risen to the challenge.

Totally agree - he seems to have been knocked backwards since Dias arrived and Stones stepped up. Not what you want in terms of a reaction from a player such as Laporte

After the interview he gave about playing time, could be one of the players looking to leave this summer

With Dias and Laporte our build up would be smoother as right and left footed pairing is better for that. Then it would make our passing faster thus overall game better.

Think Laporte needs to be the long term partner for Dias.

I think our best build up play comes with Stones and Laporte, not Dias. It's something he's slowly improving on but he isn't as good as either yet.

That being said, he's by far and away our best defender and I'd still want him in the lineup every time.

Not being funny, he literally just needs to communicate more, buy into the whole 'pride in defending' mentality that they've adapted this season, and he'll be back in the XI. I remember one of the older players, think it was either NDJ or Joleon, said that Dzeko's problem at City was that he never realised that the player who could play best *with* Aguero and form a partnership with him would be a starter. Instead he thought he had to compete with him and take his spot and it left him frustrated. With Laporte, he just needs to form a proper partnership with Dias and that spot will be his. If you listen to what Pep's said about the defenders this season, it's clear that that's why he's lost his place.

Yeah it was Lescott. He mentioned that Gareth Barry said the same thing about Toure. You're never going to be better than him, so make sure you're the best partner for him.

No way. John is head and shoulders above both Dias and Laporte for passing and bringing the ball out from the back.I have watched the team struggle to implement our passing game when stones is not in the side. You must be watching a different game. When Eddie is not in goal the same problem occurs. John has his weaknesses but passing from the back to start our attacks is not 1.
