No problem being proactive with signings

There is deffo need for an extra midfield signing, thw lack of legs has literally been one of if not the biggest issue we've had this year

Rodri (29)
Gundogan (34)
Bernardo (31)
Kovacic (31)
Nico (23)

By the time the window closes next window that's the age of our starting midfielders, maybe none leave this summer but one might, and then 2026 Gundo/Bernardo contract expires

Nico can play with Rodri but also may be his long term successor, we need a partner for him whether that's Reijnders or someone else

We need a new midfielder, even if that means this lad has to share a bit of time next summer for the midfielder Uncles to clear out
 
Technically sound but can see why he hasn't featured much. constantly in the wrong place, particularly off the ball and good decision by pep to entrust bernardo with the babysitting role.

He's 6 months further down the line by bringing him in in January though, there was a hope being from la masia, that he might buck the trend and get it straight away but he was always likely to need the time. Use the summer and CWC to get him upto standards and he should be ready to have a meaningful impact next season.
 
Needs to get much fitter. He’s struggled physically since joining-there is a player there though.

According to the recent Pep book It was the same reason Pep took a while to trust Rodri, getting him to be in the right position, and stopping him chasing around too much. It was Lilo who took Rodri aside and got him to understand the positioning side of his game.

People mention the criticism for Rodri in his first 12-18 months forgetting that it actually was very warranted. He was clueless for that period, both he and Pep basically said as much later on when it clicked and Rodri had the benefit of seeing fernandinho do it.

With rodri's return, I expect that learning process to quicken now that Nico will have the master to watch up close and copy.
 
I think the team selection was a big statement today. And what he said in the build up about the squad being too big. He's got too many players on the fringe. Nico is clearly in the plans going forward.

I'm not expecting a massive summer of activity. A net reduction in the squad so with kbd and Jack out we might bring 1 in. And any more business will depend on the overall position and who we can move on.

If we don’t have a summer of massive activity we are totally fucked next season.

That's why he needs time. Pep will show him that holding position is so much more important than running too much. Let the ball do the work. Rodri was similar at first then nailed it better than anyone out there. Nico has the potential to be an absolute beast for us.
