14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

Is his arm okay? Would love to see him start vs Spurs

I was just about to share the same statistic here.

Nico and Tijjani in our midfield means that we have legs and physical presence at an enviable level. This looks much, much better to me than when I look at midfield Gundogan Kovačić Bernardo.

I hope he is healthy before this weekend, unfortunately the club does not post any training news on social networks.

Many of those vertical passes just wouldn’t have been attempted last season. Refreshing to see more impetus and movement.

Definitely a player we can use and as much as we love Rodri, he's not had a backup for years.

We'd love one that can give rest to Rodri!

Indeed. Guardiola has acknowledged that he would like to use Rodri before the international break, but probably only from the bench. The three opening games, Wolves (A) Spurs (H) and Brighton (A), offer distinct challenges for Gonzalez, arguably typical of the games he can expect in a domestic season, so should he get through those unscathed and we take the points, his confidence should soar and there will be less need to hasten Rodri’s return.

has there been any update on his arm sure i saw that he was in training yesterday

Thought he was one of the big issues today.

It wasn’t that he was bad on the ball, it was that he was rarely available to receive the ball and failed to provide a link between the midfield and attack/defence.

There were so many occasions when the defenders had the ball where he was totally invisible and didn’t even make an effort to show for it.

At the bare minimum you’ve got to be visible and trying to dictate the play. I can forgive having a bad day through things not coming off but not being a shadow. The fastest he moved all day was when he got subbed off.

Yeah he was very poor.

Physically, he is very good and a much needed unit in the midfield.

But he also needs to develop the mental game to an elite level for a possession side, that's the part we have to be patient with as it takes time, Rodri didn't have it immediately either.

So the question here is - do these stats hold good against CL opposition and against the top 6 in the PL?
Rodri came and showed how a DM orchestrates in a Pep team and he is half crooked.
Nico clearly was only okay today against Spurs so will he ever be Rodri/Fernandinho good for us ?

You can definitely see the difference between him and an elite ball playing cdm(Rodri).

Rodri was spraying the ball left and right, stretching the pitch and allowing us to keep the ball in their 3rd.

Nico doesnt do any of that, though I understand he is a box to box CM covering Rodri's absence. He wasn't bad, the difference was just glaring.
