14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

Thought he was great against Wolves, today you could see his inexperience.

Feel like he’s more of a Reinjders than a Rodri without being as good as either.

One for the future still.

Thought he played well but just too safe for the majority of the time. He passes forward once every ten times he gets it.

Rodri is the master of passing forward nine in ten and it makes a big difference.

So the question here is - do these stats hold good against CL opposition and against the top 6 in the PL?
Rodri came and showed how a DM orchestrates in a Pep team and he is half crooked.
Nico clearly was only okay today against Spurs so will he ever be Rodri/Fernandinho good for us ?
None of us thought Rodri would hold a candle to Fernandinho when he joined, for his first full year I don’t think Rodri had a game as good as Nico against Newcastle last year.

So let’s see what happens. Who knows how he’ll turn out. It’s the one position on the pitch we see Pep genuinely transforming players.

Give him a chance. Pep makes most players better.

Poor today. Absolutely anonymous.

For a player who said his best attribute is that he’s physical, he’s weak as piss. Shrugged off so easily for their 2nd. He didn’t even try to protect that hospital pass.

You can definitely see the difference between him and an elite ball playing cdm(Rodri).

Rodri was spraying the ball left and right, stretching the pitch and allowing us to keep the ball in their 3rd.

Nico doesnt do any of that, though I understand he is a box to box CM covering Rodri's absence. He wasn't bad, the difference was just glaring.
I think he's a good enough backup player. Maybe Rodri doesn't miss a whole season if we bought him 6 months earlier

Until he learns to play long pass, put his arse on the bench

At least Javi Garcia was handsome :D

Funny thing is these Spannish players are hard to guess..

They are not only taught how to play certain position but how to act as well..

When looking at Nico during game and his mimics and jests and body language (those head movements off the ball to analyse the pitch or whatever :D) - he acts like a decent defensive midfielder.

But problem is that he doesn't play like that.

Holding midfielder has the ball, keeps his head up and passes only low balls ? WTF is that.
Especially when opponent is pressing, there is always enough space upfront to make a long pass and give ball directly to the winger, which in most cases leads to goals and that's something Rodri, Fernandinho, Gundogan and all our midfielders are masters at.

And then comes Nico, who like Pep mentioned - "Nico tries..." :D

I don't know, this team needs goooood strong shake up.

Good back up for Rodri. Those slating him are being deluded. We did overpay though

Zubimendi was available for a similar fee, another player who lacks pace and gets caught in possession quite a lot
