14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

Think you are wrong but not just his decision
I disagree it is telling he picked an aging Gundogan ahead and activating his renewal clause. If he didn't think Gundo couldn't still contribute for this season he would have easily cut him loose this summer for nothing.

Heard a lot of those comments about Rodri in his first season
Difference being, didn’t Rodri start and play in quite a few games? We’ve got no idea how good this guy is, as he’s not been given a chance.

60m was it, for essentially a bench warmer

That is on pepe. When he has played he has looked ok to good. I think he has looked better than Rodri when he came. Also the team was a lot more stable then and Rodri could lean on Fernandinho

What an earth is going on here. We've been crying out for a 'mini-Rodri' for ages. Lets be honest we're not going to find an exact peak Rodri, because he doesn't exist.

We finally find one available in the market of the same mould , who's an absolute shoe-in to help let Rodri get back to full fitness, which judging by the CWC will take I reckon until October or even November.

And then there's now rumours this summer of trying to sell him & we go back to square one looking for CDM assistance....sort out your blind spot Pep or better yet Viana have a word with the bald one, its your show now...you really can't make this up.

I think the worry is just the body of evidence so far. Pep has barely played him, opting for the likes of Gundogan in the run in.

We've then had the Club World Cup which is perfect for using him and even then he's barely played.

On the face of it so far it looks like another £50m down the toilet.

Writing was on the wall for him when we signed Reijnders. A shame as he's a very promising player. The goal against Bournemouth showed us a glimpse of what he is capable of.

The thing is he is not been fully utilised especially in the CWC. If we are going to move more players on due to registration limits he would be top priority. Get very good money for him too. It does seem Pep doesn't really rate Nico.
What a ridiculous comment, let's move on the 23 year old whos been here 5 months and barely had a kick 'as priority' over the countless 30+ year olds who clearly aren't able to do what Pep wants anymore.

It's a joke if this lad gets sold or loaned out. If there's any truth in the rumour, it's another very clear indication of a possible breakdown in the link between Viana and Guardiola.

Gonzalez and Khusanov should have been guaranteed appearances in the Mickey Mouse World Cup, but Pep seems to have forgotten about them when picking his old favourites.

Viana needs to put his foot down.
And do what? Tell Pep who he must play? Not sure that's in his job description.

If Pep doesn't make use of the players signed by the club, he's not doing his job.

He's the head coach. It's reasonable to assume that he has input into signings / promotions from EDS etc, alongside Viana and previously Bergiristain. He then has a responsibility to get the best out of those players.

Viana/Bergiristain provide the tools for Guardiola to work with. If he doesn't use them, he's not doing his job.

If he subsequently thinks that certain players don't fit the bill, his job is to work with them to develop/improve their performance.

He's picking his favourites over expensive new signings. Hugo Viana would be right to wonder why he bothered applying for the job.

The Board needs to rein Guardiola in.

a blind man can see there is a disconnect between Guardiola and the DoF. This isn’t even just Hugo Viana it’s mainly been Txiki.

How can the club keep buying players that Guardiola doesn’t want, surely they must run the signings past him.

Phillips, Nico G, Khusanov, Reis, Nunes that’s £200m roughly on players Guardiola won’t pick. To be fair he is picking Nunes but at right back after coming out and saying he isn’t clever enough to play the position he has played his whole career. Now is that Guardiola’s fault or is it the DoF buying players the manager thinks aren’t worth bothering with.

It is not a ridiculous comment at all. Pep is still selecting Gundogan ahead of him for starters especially during last season's run in. His contract has been automatically renwed for this season and has stated he is here for the remainder of his contract. The issue is the squad still needs to be cut and we have a player who isn't being fully used who can still fetch good money, and are looking to bring in a younger midfielder in. It is a flip between Kovacic and Gonzalez but Pep seems to favour Kova too.

How you know they are signing players he doesn’t want? Maybe they just don’t meet his expectations? Why is NOTHING EVER Pep‘s fault? I don’t get it here

I know you disagree about Kovacic and Gundogan going this summer bur even if you are right they will both be gone in a year so will Bernardo That leaves Rodri Reijnders and O’Reilly for the 6 and 8 , very much doubt we wold let a 23 year old Gonzalez go now . We aren't just planning for next season but the next 4 or 5 when Rodri will be 34.

If we let Gonzalez go, we'll buy another young midfielder.

I like Nico, Pep himself praised him a lot after Newcastle. No idea what happened after that, but we might be looking at signing another midfielder. Hope Gonzalez continues with us, though.
