14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

Played well I thought. Real composure on the ball, read the game well and wanted to play it quickly when he did have it.

Never a penalty or a free kick leading to it.
Looked to be already getting in better positions to receive and play the ball. Peps coaching is sinking in. Made some very good through the lines passes too. I think there's a lot more to come from Nico.

Zubimendi, at 26, is further ahead in his development than Nico at 23. We dont really need Zubimendi who would be kicking his heels for the next 3 years as Rodri plays, cos Rodri is obviously the best.

Nico is at the perfect stage of development to sit and learn then be 26 and ready to take over when Rodri wanes.

So from that perspective it made sense to get Nico regardless of whether Zubimendi would actually join us or not.

I also think Nico changes peoples minds similar to Rodri.

And he's going to get plenty of game time whilst Rodders gets properly fit

I don't understand what people don't see. I already love him defensively and on the press.

It is clear he is a very good player. I am just as confident defensively with him as i am with Rodri.

The other stars can and should pick up the slack offensively until he fully catches up.

I forgot nico is that young! Can't see how anyone can't see this lads potential

I don’t think he did much wrong when he came on but he is just an average player, in what has become a very average midfield. Our midfields over the past decade have arguably been the best in the world, not now, not even close.

Physical beast.

For his 1st year he is doing great.

I wouldn't go that far. If anything I think his biggest weakness is his lack of strength in midfield.

I do think he will end up being a good deputy to Rodri long term though.

To play devils advocate I don't think he was as bad as some people make out today, when he got the ball he looked up to see hardly any movement ahead of him. This is our biggest issue this last 12 months - some of our attacking players don't put in the hard yards when they get tired. Often we look fine in the first 50 mins and then are on our heels for the later stages of the game and rely on defending slim leads - it's a common issue.

He's a decent player we just need more movement.
