14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

Everyone will have a clean slate under a new manager to force their way into his thinking. You’ve got the likes of Gonzales, Marmoush. Reinjdeers, Ait Nouri that weren’t starting under Pep. Maresca may see something different in some of these players and they may respond differently with a new voice in the dressing room.

A lot of work to hit the ground running in preseason for the new manager to see who’s with him and wants to run through walls and who isn’t and needs shipping out.
Marmoush and Reindjers are only good at smiling when they miss a chance. The other 2 i think there is something there maybe the new manager can extract it.

Phillips, Nunes, and Nico Gonzalez cost approximately £150 million, but none of them managed to establish themselves in our midfield.

Sometimes it's better to invest £100 million in a sure thing that will guarantee quality for years to come; it's more cost-effective.
Yes but opportunities arise, Nunes has become arguably a top 3 RB in Europe, Nico we will recover our transfer outlay

Also, £100mil isn’t a "sure thing" these days

We signed £55mil KDB the year before Pogba moved for £90m, Gundogan for £20mil the same year

We were interested in Rice and Bellingham but they chose Arsenal & Madrid respectively, it happens. £100mil players that are actually worth £100mil dont grow on trees, and those that are likely pay for clubs who aren't interested

Chelsea had to spend £225m on Enzo & Caicedo, given what they've shown for Chelsea I'm not sure we'd have been overly impressed and wouldn't back them to repalce Rodri & Bernardo. Not sure they are "sure things"

Wirtz was a "sure thing" among the European elite... hes been awful and our £30mil Cherki has been one fo the best playmaker in the world

There is always a balancing act, we've found some amazing value in the market
Guehi £20m
Donna £25m
Khusanov £35m
Cherki £30m
Kovacic £25m
Alvarez £21m
Even Doku for £55m is looking like a great deal when players like Diomande are going for £100mil

Liveprool got Szoboszlai for £60mil, he'd have been a really positive signing that would've helped our midfield. Arsenal however spent £60mil on Zubimendi and think hes been similar to Nico G, decent but not quite enough.

This is exactly right I feel. How often do 'sure things' even go well?

Below is the top 15 record transfers. I'd argue at most 6-7 you could consider a success and that includes Caicedo and Enzo Fernandes and I think that is debatable for the outlay/ impact.

Rather try my hand at buying a few 'riskier bets' for less individual outlay - the success rate isn't any worse, plus eggs in baskets and all that.

For every Gonzales you get a Cherki, for every Marmoush you get a Khusanov.

Got us into the Cup Final, which we won. Carried us through games at the start of the season covering for Rodri. Definitely not £60m down the drain
Got us into the cup final ? Is it similar to last season where Marmoush got us top 4?

How on earth do we attribute success to one player in a team game and that too with a player which is already considered as surplus to requirements ? The same player which Pep didn’t fancy ?

Surely he is not that great as people are painting picture of

Someone else said we are here bcoz of Guehi some said Semenyo some say Nunes so it’s tough to track who is responsible for our cup wins

Maybe it depends on situation - when someone is about to be sold , he become the most important player for the season or when someone makes mistake he become the most important person in the team

Bit generous putting Kovacic in there. The rest i agree.

Id be sad if he goes, but we will definitely recoup our feee for him.

Maybe we won't get Alavarez levels off profit off him, but it will be some amount that immediately gets reinvested for another midfielder.

Do you watch City mate? He literally scored the winning goal in the semi final for the cup. So he got us to the cup final. Same as Semenyo won it for us.

Never been up to the quality required here these days since the minute he walked in the door, could tell almost immediately.

Pep did sign a few duds during his time, this was deffo one of them.
Agree with the first part. Disagree with the second, Pep didn't sign him.
