This has brought some controversy to Oxford where various RW groups rook to the streets to protest against them

What are they

Conspiracy nuts do not like them

Simply put, the 15-minute city principle suggests you should have your daily needs – work, food, healthcare, education, culture and leisure – within a 15-minute walk or bike ride from where you live.

Has anybody got any thoughts on them?

I caught a bit about this on Radio 4. There was some nutter on who was saying it’s a conspiracy to prevent freedom of movement and keep us as slaves within our houses, and is to replace lockdown.

^^ was only thinking the other day what the latest conspiracy/grift was going to be.

All the 'UAPs' turned out to be party balloons with 'spy cams' attached and Tom Hanks probably didn't eat children after all.

Anything to reduce working/commuting hours and increase leisure time should have anyone's support! Not to mention the benefits to the local community and environment...

As someone who spends half their life on fucking trains I would snap your arm off to live like that!

bar work everything this is is already there near me, shops, GPs Schools etc

in fact when all the factories were around here you could work, send your kids to school, bank, shop for all your needs, go to the pub visit libraries, swimming baths, parks the doctors etc all within 20 minutes walk away.

This isn't even a new concept it is how suburban areas of towns and cities were set up for centuries during industrial britain, to find it strange is abnormal as these conspiracy theorist are.

I lived in Oxford for a few years and commuting in to the centre was an absolute fucking nightmare to commute in on the roads. I read the statement that Oxfordshire Council put out to clarify the situation after all the conspiracy loons started sending death threats to the staff. It sounded alright to be fair.

If you live in a dump of an area you would be trapped there? It sounds like a nice way for well to do people to keep the riff raff out.

It's a no from me.

Why would you be trapped there?

Have you not the read the thread?

There's no expectation that you have to use the local services within your area, if you prefer to use alternative shops, gym or leisure facilities you would still be able to do so.

For public services we already have catchment zones for GP practices, schools, polling stations etc.
