Maybe its just me, but apart from that small skirmish with the russians and the stewards, I've not seen much coverage of any trouble, and apart from the odd firework in the grounds it looks good natured, with fans mixed together and no trouble, but then I don't read our tabloids because they mostly print bullshit.

More importantly because there were a couple of programmes on TV here that said there was going to be trouble, our media hacks will be looking for it everywhere to say "told you so".

Our media have a hate of UEFA (some of it justified), and so are looking for anything to tar them with.

So far three days in, it all looks pretty friendly for the vast majority of people enjoying it, just as it should be.

According to official press reports the Russians/stewards scrap was 'a minor incident'. Only when footage was put on youtube did the truth come out.

And they chose russia over england for the world cup? Currupt bastards! Its just all gonna kick off again in 2018

No.

I agree with FIFA, England have had it before, it's right to give it to places that haven't had it, bit selfish and greedy otherwise.

Obviously not.

I was thinking more Syria.

But seriously, there are countries that haven't had it before that could benefit from it massively, in terms of their nation and leagues getting a boost, other than the elite countries i.e. Australia could have.

Mexico, Italy, France and Germany (first was as West Germany) have hosted it twice.

It's the WORLD cup after all, so all countries should be considered, and not just handed to England or other European powerhouses just because they are the elite.

how many fights and injuries you got on a typical british friday/saturday night out?
is someone counting or it`s being counted only abroad? :)
Are you taking the piss?

Great deflection by the way.

Did we see this amount of violence at Euro 96? Did we fuck. The figures quoted are at the Euro's, not in town centres up and down Poland and the Ukraine that would happen with or without a major sporting event taking place.

It's a disgrace Uefa allowed the tournament to take place there and shows that bluemooner's stating "there'll be no trouble, I went to Poznan and it was fine" was bollocks. For the Irish fans to get into bother, you know something is not right. They never have trouble anywhere, they are well loved universally, normally.
In France in 1998 we were running riot in some places. By all accounts the most violent set of fans at the tournament.

-- Thu Jun 14, 2012 5:22 pm --

People who think England should win the buds to host World Cups are like Liverpool fans who think they belong at the top of the league.

We have no right to any of it. Plus we don't had enough decent stadiums. Milton Keynes?! Come on!

A World Cup in Russia will be good. Great drinking, even better women!

We have plenty decent stadiums
City / Rags / Emirates / Newcastle / Sunderland are the best IMO.
Nothing wrong with Milton Keynes, it just needs the second tier finishing
off which it would be if we got the nod.
What we have is an FA who think things should be spread out to shit holes
like Leeds, Liverpool and Brum, the areas around Villa Park and Anfield
are the pits.
It should be centered aroung Manchester, North East and London.
The new Olympic Stadium and Twickenham which it a brilliant stadium
could come into the equasion.

I agree things should be spread out but thats not what it's all about.
It's who gives the biggest bung.

That is a really, really terrible way to decide the hosts. It should be given to whoever puts the best bid together.

FIFA is right in thinking about 'Legacy' and long term benefits.
The World Cup should be spread around the world, like it did in 2002 to S Korea and Japan/ South Africa, broadening it's hosting, other than just having predominately in Europe.
Brazil were right to get it, South American football is good and they love the game too.
Qatar probably too, providing they can sort out the heat/cooling issues.
Russia too deserved it having not had it, their leagues and teams quality improving.

Would like to see it in Oz, Greece/more southern eastern europe i.e. Croatia/Hungary/Bulgaria etc. Another South American country like Argentina/Chile/Peru...
