16 Points - Sense of Perspective

Against Liverpool, the entire team lost their heads. That was a proper collapse. Against United, our CBs and DM forgot how to defend loose balls and set pieces in the box. Nobody else lost their heads. We sure as shit didn't look rattled. At no point were we unable to play like we had intended to do. We were poor at defending in our box and not clinical enough in the other one. That falls on bad decisions made by 3-4 players and does not constitute a collapse. That Liverpool match could be replayed thousand times and you would still get the same result because the performance was so god awful. Compared to that, United lucked out. 2 penalties and 1 red card not given. Sterling bottling 4-5 chances himself. De Gea producing a world class save on Kun's header. Fine margins. Any other day and we're steamrolling United based on that performance.
I'm just curious as to why it seems to be a repeating issue, once we conceded one against a top team our defense lose their heads.
Would this have happened to Barca or Bayern Munich twice in the same week? I think we know the answer.
Fortunately it doesn't matter we're going to win the league anyway but there's definitely weaknesses in this team

Clearly we all wanted to win yesterday, like we've wanted to win every game this season. It hurts like hell because we have lost the derby but think back to when we beat them at Old Trafford, it was nice but it didn't feel like the 5-1 or the 6-1 or even the Shaun Goater 3-1. You know the reason why, because they are nowhere near us, not a patch on us, this was their Cup Final. We are 13 points in front of them. 13 points. We have played the most sublime football all season and two defeats is tainting a whole season for some of you. So look at the games we have left, wait for us to mathematically win it and then savour the whole season, not 180 minutes when we haven't got the results we all wanted. We're not entitled to anything, next season is going to be even tougher, so enjoy the 13 points, get back behind the boys and the manager and let's cheer them on through the finishing line.......and hopefully we might get something Tuesday too, but if not, I'll still be there cheering the lads on as we look to break some records along the way. CTID.
Great post. We still have an excellent chance of winning the title with a record points total. Anyone who thinks that would be "limping over the line" or an "anti-climax" seriously needs their bumps feeling.

If we lose the next two or three prem games, THAT'S when we can start crapping ourselves.

We're not going to throw it away mate

Yesterday was a terrible result - no getting away from that. Liverpool result very hard to take too. We are still having an amazing season though and I also think we do need a sense of perspective. Probably been the worst week I can remember post takeover but we are still going to win the league and have a domestic cup as well. We are still in a Champions League quarter final and have a (very slim) chance of turning it around. Let's get behind the team. United may have won yesterday but that will be forgotten when we win the title.

We didn't go into those games 3-0 down already.

Just the two down with 5 minutes left and 2 goals needed in stoppage time to win the league.

With City, it’s never over till it’s over.

Unlikely but any more unlikely than those situations? Hell no.

I'd like to know what effect it has on our players week in week out when they are on the end of some of the shittiest reffing decisions your likely to see in any one season. Does Raheem, Leroy, Jesus, or Sergio make the effort to go directly into an opposition area knowing full well that when they get upended it's play on. Does it stop them in their tracks and force them to play the ball backwards so that we can, perhaps, score a goal from another route without an opposition foot getting near the ball? And how does it play on a defender's mind when you see nigh on every contact sanctioned with a free kick? We talk of mental toughness but I can't remember any other title chasing team being on the end of so many outrageous decisions! On the contrary, it always seemed that their passage was lubricated for them.

Bayern lost 5-0 to Madrid in a semi final couple years back. Madrid have lost 5 matches and drawn 6 this season. Earlier this season, they lost 3 matches in row - 3-0 to Barca, 2-2 against fuckin Celta Vigo and 1-0 to Villareal. First match they got humiliated by their bitter rivals, second match they were leading and lost their heads and the third match their world famous attack couldn't manage to score a single goal at home. So yes it can happen to the best of teams.
