True, but on the flip side he shouldn’t shoulder all the blame when teams do attack us either. The midfield should play as a unit, in good times and bad.
True but against a team that plays against us on the counter, I just see him as weak link. I don’t think he has the legs to play against a top 6 team it’s no coincidence our form has dropped against these types of teams considerably since he has taken that position.

I’m not going to lie I really don’t like him so I am biased but I feel like we could have spent £60 odd million on a better player.

I don’t think many players could feasibly do that role single handedly in our system against the top clubs either. Fernandinho was almost a freak of nature in that regard. The onus should be on Guardiola to adapt accordingly imo.

Put a prime Fernandinho in our system today and he’d struggle. he had the benefit of the inverted fullbacks. Now we play with two sets of wingers.

doesnt matter hw mobile you are if the balls knocked over the defence for a fast forward.

Well, in our system when it's ineffective at least (which has happened quite a lot over the last season and a bit). When this system works he'd do very well.

True. When we are pressing effectively it’s a thing of beauty. When we lose players it goes to shit.

Thought he was better tonight. Good to see him bounce back and look a bit more determined after the Leicester game

He couldn’t have tailor picked a better game for him. When teams play direct from the back straight to the front men and are physical he thrives because his lack of mobility isn’t exposed and he’s physically exceptional. Sadly for him and us, Burnley are pretty much the only side in the entire league that still plays in that way.

Love the lad. He’s a baller, but not flash. Much as Dinho didn’t get respect t for years, so it will be for Rodri, I guess...even from Rags City fans!

That said, we NEED to spend the dough to get Aouar in tout de suite, esp if Arsenal want him!

22 year old with Intl & CL experience, who both Pep & KDB consider class. Get him CHEAP now, or regret it when the meat of the season arrives and we are short in the middle of the park.

Everyone knows we are a KDB injury away from being bang average in midfield up against the other Top 6 midfields.

Plus, he would help Rodri, both on and off the ball.

Ahh so it appears we have annointed a new scapegoat ahead of this season and it’s Rodri now.

Anybody clamoring for Dinho just happened to forgot that any good pressing team will just turn our team to mush. Remember against Liverpool when the team couldn’t even get past the halfway line before turning the ball over? Fun times.

We need a more press-resistant DM and Rodri is one of the best in the business. Yes we miss Dinho’s dynamism in the PL, but in Europe we’re resting our hope on Rodri if we ever want to go far. All the teams in Europe don’t sit back and will take us on and press us.

I think Pep’s take on this is that it’s much more likely for Rodri to become more Dinho-like by improving his positioning and anticipation, rather than having a more dynamic player like Dinho and hoping him to become more press resistant like Rodri.

Rodri is not a complete player yet but this is his 2nd season, and he’s still 24 years old. At 24 years old Fernandinho was in his 2nd season in the Ukrainian league. If we’re waiting for Rodri to become a complete player before we buy him, I’m sorry to say but 100M won’t be enough to buy him.

If Pep wanted someone like Dinho he would’ve just bought Partey from Atletico that had a cheaper release clause than Rodri. But the fact is we’re veering away from that direction in terms of the type of DM that we want in our team.

Remember fernandinho losing the ball fair bit in the last few years in midfield. Also notice Rodri trying to be more aggressive in midfield in last couple of games but he needs a dinho in the team to compliment him for now.
