For our pivot he’s too cumbersome on the ball and then not good enough when passing incisively. He floats his passes around which gives the opposition time to get back in shape.

He was actually better than normal tonight and I hold a vain hope out that he suddenly finds another couple of gears but I don’t expect it.

I’d make him our 4th CB and get another midfielder in. I don’t think he’s going to be the answer without going to a double pivot, which would still mean we need someone else to do part of his job because I don’t ever see him improving his speed of thought, passing or running.

Genuine question, not trying to start an argument, but is the criticism I'm reading for real or are people joking? I think he was very good, and all in all the consensus among the folks here is that Rodri is world class player. Asking because maybe I'm missing something in his game that makes City fans angry.

He's slow that's the main criticism people have pep exposes this more when he plays him with the likes of gundy or without someone who presses.

You can't make a 60 million pound signing into a 4th choice cb. He just needs to be playing with someone who can press like bernie or fern.

He isn't a headless chicken or makes tackles.

Pep did similar with Martinez at Bayern.

Playing someone else to do part of his job when thus far he hasn’t shown he’s good enough to play in our team would be compounding the problem.

Rodri is a big problem for this team.

And the apparent solution is either Gundogan or Fernandinho. Not worked out well thus far.

He seems to play well with ferny?

Yeah it’s people’s quirk with Rodri here. They all want Usain Bolt as our DM so he can run endlessly and apparently it’ll fix our problem.

Too many don't understand that the team attacks and defends as a whole. If your CBs and/or FBs make bad mistakes and if your midfielders and forwards don't press well, no DM in the world can single handedly make you solid at the back.

Do you remember that Fernandinho struggled in 16/17? Probably not.

Thought that was one of his better games. Moments of the game he had 3-4 people running at him when we lost the ball high up. Counted a couple of times KDB lost it and just give up even trying to run back.
