He never starts attacks off like Fernandinho used too. He helps to open up a team when your holding mid can play progressive passes through the lines. He was awful first half but much better when Gundo went off and he had runners in front of him

He is so important for the midfield - was looking at his game in the second half and all the passes,
all the movements and etc are always through him.. I counted number of good tackles and defensive
plays and that divine skill - when he distributes the ball from any difficult situation..

I know that we have reason to be negative and etc, but let's focus on the positive aspects of his game..

Of course he is 60m player and one of the best defensive midfielders in the world football right now. Casemiro, busquets, Jorjinho, Fabinho and all the big teams have this type of midfielder. They don't have fernandinho or alan or kante - Rodri is the "industry standard" right now and all of them are slower in terms of counter attacks, but those teams as well are built around such players and that has logical reasons. Today it's more important how you control the ball and retain it and distribute - than how you defend counter attacks. Because Pep is the guy who revolutionized football and all of the big clubs have copied his style. That's why I am 100% sure that Pep made the right decision to buy Rodri and I have never seen him - complaining about him. (I haven't seen him praising Rodri either, but still counts :D)

I have the feeling that he bosses the midfield when we have the ball. He knows how to distribute it, how to make small pauses, help team to relax and focus. He reads game very well and in overall is an elite player.

Comparing him to Javi Garcia is very very Funny. Please just re-watch game against Real Madrid in 2012 where Javi played as number 6 and then re-watch another game in 2020 - where Rodri played number 6.. You will definitely change your mind.
He’s a joy to watch.

Watched him closely last night and he just looks like he isn't fit. At one point he's trying to bust a gut to get back into position but he just looks like he's out of puff. And that was in the first half. Another time he could have put a foot in and won the ball but didn't bother and they won it and broke forwards. Needs to learn to get stuck in, and if it's high up the pitch realise if he doesn't get stuck in then we'll be countered. Just put a foot in, if you don't win the ball, take the man.

he just gets booked in 15 minutes and then we're left hopeless in defensive transition because no-one can make a tackle, it's a tactic of referees now and just means he has to be brilliant at interceptions and closing passing angles and turning counter-attackers onto their weaker foot to make the next pass harder. He doesn't have the mobility for that though.

Cool comeback. You sound really hard. Now run along and wipe your fanny you muppet. You’re dripping all over the place.
I have no interest to talk with you, if you have opinion about the player post it and stop commenting others, especially with that tone - i am not your friend or family member or something and that kind of familiarity you can save for that.

next time such kind of provocations will be reported

don’t like my post ? Ignore it

I don’t want to write Rodri off yet, as he’s still a young player and it’s only his second season. But I think there are too many missing sides to his game that are really difficult to learn. Lots of us have pointed out the issues with mobility and general positional play. I think the other key point is not having the mental attributes (tenacity, work rate, awareness) and not linking up between out defence and attacks. These are all skills that our best DMs had - early Yaya, De Jong, Fernandinho. On reflection, in the past when Fern was missing through injury it definitely affected our results, but Gundo deputised well enough that our system still functioned in the same way

We’ve had a few DMs who never quite fit in, and who affected the balance of our team so much that the entire system of play looked different, and the attack and defence became disjointed and error prone. Javi Garcia and Fernando being two of them. Based on current performances, I’m afraid Rodri sits in this camp for me. I hope we find a different role for him or he somehow adapts to what we need, but £60 million is frankly ridiculous for what we’ve seen so far
