It might be because we haven't played for so long, but Rodri's performance last night was one of the best individual performances I've seen from a City player. De Bruyne stole the headlines, but he was everywhere and was a level above anyone else. Composed passing under pressure, physically commanding, playing some brilliant attacking passes and getting stuck in. He was just absolutely brilliant last night. I ended up watching him - he just glides up and down and across the pitch and knows exactly where the space is and how to manipulate the opposition. Having watched England struggle to pass out from the back, you see just how good Rodri is. He can have three around him and he'll take the ball and find someone in space. Whilst the ball was pinging about he would take a touch to control it. He won headers and he gave them shit when they tried to foul him, and we need more of that. 26 years old and starting to look exceptional now. Considering how many more years he has at the top, he could be regarded as the best DM ever by the time he finishes. He's already at Busquet's peak level in my opinion.

Had the mindset that we were winning that game by any means necessary

class on the ball as always but was also fired up and game out some stick

our most important player until Phillips gets his acttogether

I was browsing RAWK earlier, and nestled amongst all the vitriol was this little gem of a tribute.

He has developed an edge to his game which i am sure was helped by playing and training with Dinho , he doenst take any prisoners and usually has a strangle hold on the midfield area , not seen a better defensive midfield player this season.

When he first got here I thought he looked technically ok, but a bit slow but more worryingly a bit too nice for English football. I don't know what's happened, but it's like someone turned a switch on towards the end of last season.

Edit: I vaguely remember something similar happening with Spanish Dave. He was a proper shithouse by the time he left us, seemed to enjoy taking and giving out a kicking. Maybe they do just need a couple of years to adjust.

Always goes under the radar but he’s quietly becoming our most important player
Bernardo Silva said as much in the end of season documentary, sat in the changing rooms he had his arm around Rodri and said ‘this man is our most important player’ to the camera.

Mint again tonight. Only twice was he got the better of all game, he bossed the battle in midfield.
