Reminds of a coach I had when I was younger that told us that he wanted us to thump it to one side of the net or the other. Don’t try to perfectly place it, just hit it as hard as you can near either post. He had been a keeper and said that most keepers are not going to have the reaction time to get to a hard hit shot left or right of them. The ball flies by before they can really stretch for it fully. And even if they saved it (either by getting lucky or you not quite hitting it far enough over) he wanted it to be at the cost of a broken finger.

Few players do it now a days because you look like a bellend if the keeper does manage to save it and everyone expects players to place it to justify the art and science of penalty coaching.
