In Pep's first two league wins, Fernandinho was ridiculously good. Rodri has reached a level that I don't think Ferna ever quite touched, but it's hardly a shameful comparison.

If Fern had been coached from a younger age by Pep, I suspect he would have been even more magnificent that he was for us.

I agree though that Rodri has gone to another level. The fact that he is in the conversation as to who is the world’s best footballer is I would suggest evidence of that.

I hope City act in the summer transfer window to bring in a player or players that mean Rodri can be rested from games more and released forward more in games: I don’t think he has reached his peak yet.

I haven’t been able to pay as much attention to our U18 and EDS squads as of late — do we have any Lavia-like (minus the injury record) players coming through that might be able to do that?

Not yet. Isiah Dada-Mascoll is possibly the most likely. He is a unit though, so it can be difficult to tell in youth football. He looks very gifted.

Just pulled this off the OS.

POWERFUL, COMMANDING MIDFIELDER

Another player to have progressed through every Academy age-group, Isaiah signed as a scholar in July 2022 having first joined the Academy aged eight.

A powerful figure in every team he plays in, Isaiah’s ability on the ball means he carries the ball with confidence in the centre of the pitch.

After featuring 21 times for the Under-18s last season, Dada-Mascoll has made the jump up to Brian Barry-Murphy‘s EDS team for the 2023/24 campaign.

Definitely sounds promising, and would be great to have another ‘lifer’ in the team.

I just feel perhaps we are going to have a tough time looking outside for the player we need to lighten the load on Rodri and we’d be better off looking inside for a player that can be shaped by Pep and mentored by Rodri.

If we avoid defeat on Saturday, he joins Kolo and Henry on 49 as the only players behind Sol Cambell (56) in terms of longest unbeaten PL run.

I love Rodri, arguably my favourite player. And think he suits us better than Fernandinho's profile did but I've always thought the same, would've loved to have seen him under Pep for years earlier in his career.

Instead he wasted 2 years being the runner ying to Yaya's declining yang!
