16 | Rodri 2025/26

Been going on too long to be honest his injury and i wonder if it is as much mental as physical now?

No I doubt that.

Very few are mentally tough as Rodri.

But it was scary what I was reading while I was researching ACL's and responses from players that had prior ACL's.. horrendous nagging recurring injuries and pains in the knee everytime you put weight on it.

Wish him a speedy and complete recovery though!

Yep. People act like he's laid up in his flat smoking 2 packs a day binging old episodes of Top Gear and Eastenders downing 2 bags of crisps in a go.

He's a ballon d'or winning top level athlete who sustained a major injury for fuck sake. Everyone said Gundo was crocked when we bought him... turned out ok.
It oisses me even more when he was even saying he needs cover and rest and thr warning signs where there when was injured at euros but we chose to save money and try to get every minute of him and now his career is probably done . Whoever s idea that was should be hammered for it .

That's what we used to say about Colin Bell and Paul Lake.

I hope he comes back fit and strong, but dont expect him to be the same player when/if he does.
Unfortunately that is a distinct possibility, however ACL surgery and recovery is infinitely better than Bell and even Lake's era. His game is not predicated on pace so it might not affect him as much as some players
He's still young and let's hope he has an Adrian Peterson (NFL Running Back) type recovery

A point that should be acknowledged is that the type of football we are now playing is rather different to the type Rodri had become accustomed to with us. It now calls for more mobility and more space to be created. Of course, his return would solidify our midfield and might mean we collectively run less. However, players such as Doku, Foden, Reijnders, and Haaland thrive on space and openness, so we need to consider how Rodri's body will hold up to that style of play and those demands.

The type of football we want to play is pretty similar: controlling the game by having the ball far from our goal. Pep has explained it many times in the last months.

I suppose the Kalvin Philipps transfer didn't work out in the slightest. Had it been in anyway successful, may have taken the pressure off our midfield and Rodri in particular.

In the ideal world, yes, but Guardiola has also talked about how the players he now has are different. A team of Gundogan, Silva, Mahrez, and Grealish could keep the ball indefinitely and toy with opponents in their half, but the players now are much more direct. To get the best from them, you currently need to be prepared to play the length of the park.

The current players can keep the ball pretty well. And if they can't, then we need Rodri even more to make sure we are not too open to counters.

Again, Pep has explained it pretty well. The main difference, he said, will be that we are now more likely to use opportunities to break at speed. But the control of the ball remains a main feature of our tactics. And nobody is better than Rodri at giving a structure and rhythm to possession based football. He's likely to replace Bernardo and play together with Gonzalez in big games.

But we already knew that Phillips was cooked but still chose to go without . After we won the treble we where the best team in the world by a country mile and could have had our pick of anyone if we where willing ti spend but we chose to go cheap and it’s set us back years .

Don't think we went cheap, more like we didn't go at all.

The way Pep is talking about Rodri now is what he should have been saying in May. Starting him 3 games in a week around that arsenal game was plain negligent and that's why he is now weeks if not months behind where he might otherwise had been.

At least he seems to have learnt his lesson and he'll be eased back in. Us fans really need to stop wondering when he'll be back and just write him off for the season and consider it a welcome bonus when he does feature. His aim will be to be fit for the world cup and to go into next season with a clean bill of health.
Saod it at the time. Said it was so irresponsible. Didnt put him in my Arsenal lineup coz i thought there was no way management would be that thoughtless.

Its insane that that happened. :(

May as well forget rodri being a meaningful part of City's campaign this year. Too delicate leading up to what would potentially be his last world cup.

That's why he won't rush himself.

Spain are favourites and he has already won everything in the game pretty much so far in his career bar that trophy.

A world cup makes him immortal.

Arsenal are a run away train with their squad depth.

Only chance now is Rodri returning to full fitness for the rest of the season
