16 | Rodri 2025/26

My fear is RM just sit and wait to see if Rodders 1. Recovers fully 2. Returns to form 3. Doesn’t have a recurrence 4. Doesn’t become injury prone. If all OK then they get him for free next year. Sad but I think for a decent fee we let him go.
Why does that matter, the best ever version of Rodri already played for us. Yea he can recover his form but also maybe he won't, hes played a lot of football and is in his 30s, he will never reach his peak level

If that's the case, and Madrid decide it's not worth the hassle even on a free, then hes certainly going to regret not signing a deal with us isnt he

I'm really not fussed either way, I'd actually side with us not offering him a new contract and just ripping the plaster off, and either let him leave now or on a free next summer

Time waits for no man and were entering a new era, perhaps its time for someone else to make their mark on the club

If Madrid come in let's be honest be hard for him to refuse either them or Barca. If it was me looking at there squad and what we are losing I would want one of there midfielders to sweeten any deal. I would be looking at Tchouameni after him and Valverde had a fallen out not sure he fits in any more. A deal involving him seems a no brainer. As Rodris replacement.

He would be insane to go and join a club that has a ton of egos that need to be managed as well as a coach in Mourinho coming in who is super volatile and is well past his prime as a tactician and manager. He's also 30 this month, does he want to have to deal with the rolling 1-year deals and Perez's refusal to give longer term deals out?

I think he will end up renewing and staying. I don't see a better move for him, and the decision to go to Madrid would end horribly, I think he knows that, I think him and Gvardiol are just trying to get new deals.

Give him what he wants, we can’t lose him for free to Madrid next year

On another note, was Rodri not the down to earth footballer who didn’t use social media and drove a basic car as he didn’t care about the wealth that goes with it, I read a few years ago

I thought Pep would stay so probably wrong again here, but when he says if there was no world cup things would be sorted it feels as though that would be signing a new contract.

To leave requires us accepting an offer and all of those extra moving parts which the World Cup wouldn't make much difference to.

Feels like he is fully focussed on Spain and then will come back and look to put pen to paper...here's hoping!

We need a rodri replacement, we actually needed one last season. Nico G isn't cutting it.

Actually he was one of the best players in the team when he had a run of games
City won away against Madrid with him and lost home & away without him.

Regarding Rodri, If he thinks 300K is not enough then City should just sell.

Joao Neves is on 150K, Vitinha on +190k

I am sure Anderson or someone else will be happy with 100-200k

The club shouldn't be shocked when they're handing out absurd wages to all these new signings the last 2 season and be surprised when someone like Rodri who's been with us for years wants wages as high as that..

Yep, especially when we're talking about someone who, if he gets back to anywhere near his best, would be our best player!

I don't think we can afford to lose Rodri, we've got too many leaving as it is.

Now, for his age and the fact that he's still recovering from a major injury, he ain't getting Erling money, but he definitely deserves a raise. Give him Kev's money!

If they give him next season plus a 3 year extension, it would still be a lot cheaper than trying to get someone to replace him.

The talk of him wanting more than we’re offering I don’t really buy tbh. We won’t be offering peanuts. I think it’s simply that he wants to leave and it seems he’s not ready to say that. Leaking a story to Romano about money is designed to make us think it’s on the club, but I think he just wants out.

Sounds like he’s going. Mentioning his focus is on the World Cup but if there wasn’t one, ‘things would be different’ hmm

Yep, bang on. You can't spend plaudits and nice words

Time to go. We need to get more mobile in midfield to suit Maresca’s style.Hs had the highest peak period out of any players we have had and aling with kDB and Silva one of our greatest players of all time.

Give him the salary, he deserves it...

Bernardo gone, Kovacic probably gone, Marmoush as well, Ake plus

That's 1m of week salary budget

at least 20% of that will be enough to make Rodri stay

Apart from Rodri contract, we will need one CDM like Anderson and one RWB or RW

That's it

But if Rodri gone, we will need to pay additional 80-100m to find another top class midfielder as only Anderson won't be enough

Rodri, Nico G, Anderson and Foden / Reijnders / Matheus / Oreilly to cover those zones sometimes, is very good selection
