A quick one on Kev. Walls are generally lining up to defend free kicks by having a man lying down behind the wall in an attempt to prevent a free kick being taken underneath the wall and have been doing so for a while.

Was Kev the 1st to take a free kick this way fairly regularly? Bournemouth and Cardiff games spring to mind. Or have other players been doing this on the continent?

I always call it a 'De Bruyne' when I see a defender take to the floor these days as I assume it's because of his freekicks that they started doing it.

Brozovic(Inter) is the first I remember doing it vs Barca, went viral for it and it's been common ever since.

Ronaldinho was doing them freekicks back when Kev was sprouting his first strawberry blonde pubes.

No for 2 reasons.
1. He never did it "regularly", he did it twice, 2 years apart.
2. Ronaldinho did it more than twice, about 10 years before Kev. Plenty of other players have done it too (Messi and Ronaldo come to mind).

Bloody hell... When I was coaching junior football, we used to tell kids to hit the ball low at the defensive wall every now and then at free kicks, on the basis that they always jumped. That was over 25 years ago, and it wasn't 'new thinking' at that point!

There's very little that could be considered 'new' in football... except VAR perhaps

He produced a piece of understated world class brilliance for the second goal. Takes the ball at pace from zin on the half turn. Turns and releases Foden. Finds space driving towards their box. But Phil’s pass is half a pace behind him so he checks himself receives it and even though off balance, pushes it inch perfect for Foden to run onto.

Pure magic.
