He’s a fragile asset and I was surprised he was picked last night. I feel he gets over-used when returning from (perpetual) injuries rather than being eased in more gradually. Then it’s a vicious circle and he’s out again for weeks.

I fully accept that our medical team has a lot more knowledge than me but that’s my take anyway.

There is no obvious sign that he is regaining fitness or form and that's a major worry. Have multiple injuries and burn out finally taken their toll and will we ever see him back to his absolute best?

He's only started one league game this season. It always takes him longer than most to get back up to speed after an injury. Sergio was the same.

We all worried he was finished last season season when he came back from that hamstring injury looking a bit worse for wear -- that he didn't suit the new false #9 system with Bernardo and Gundogan and wouldn't find a way back into the team.

But then after a couple of dodgy games he was back to normal and ended up being instrumental in our run to the Champions League final.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pep goes with Jesus, Bernardo, Grealish and Foden behind Torres at Anfield, just to avoid overplaying him, but he'll be back to his best soon enough.

I just can’t wait for him to be back and running at players or just carrying the ball.

He doesn’t seem to be doing it right now but I don’t think it’s a concern or sign that he’s past his best as some of the other posters here do.

When he’s back fully fit, which could be a while depending on the actual extent of the injury, then he’ll be levels above everybody else in the league. His game relies on stamina to help with speed of mind but if he’s constantly fucked then that’s gone and he’s not producing what he can.

Hopefully he’s back to his best soon - 90 minutes last night won’t have harmed that which is one positive.

Definitely playing at a much lower level than capable and also very much within himself. He should be taking games by the scruff, inspiring, and dictating play.....last night he was a shell of himself and quite often anonymous.
Unless he is playing close to his best,i still feel we can play better as a team without him - Bernie would definitely agree, maybe Phil too.

Saying that, hopefully the fitness and mojo soon returns.

He looks like he has lost a yard of pace, which is really affecting the rest of his game as he has less time to make decisions. Praying it is just him being rusty after the injury.

Without a doubt,he struggles to get past players anymore and that was a big part of his effectiveness.Temporary issue hopefully.

Presumably picked for his experience and guile rather than fitness and form. If Gundogan had been fit he may have been spared/rested for the bin-dippers.
Personally I’d have started Phil ahead of him.
Yes he is some way off his best but if he can stay fit his undoubted class will shine though.
I had thought Grealish signing would see KDB used more sparingly but it seems Pep wants Grealish on the left full stop every match
