I bet if you asked any mainstream media hack or rag top fan to list their top 5 midfielders in PL history Kev would struggle to make the top 5. They would all put Gerrard, Keane, Viera and Lampard in there and then reluctantly put Kev in there. Its just the way it is and the narrative they will always keep spinning.

Scholes also.

Couldn't time a tackle to save his life, but scored the odd Worldie free kick and played percentage passes into space. Hyped to f*ck by the media, same a Keane and Gerrard.

Kev is head and shoulders above those three.

Without doubt, but he plays in a sky blue shirt. I remember when he first came Kev and thinking to myself he was the closest thing id seen to Zidane. Maybe not as flashy as Zidane, but they way he moved with the ball, his body position and how he was able to pick out passes. Not saying he's as good as Zidane, but there isnt much in it. Its a bit like David Silva, only real people who ever game him the credit he deserved was City fans and ex players who could appreciate what he did.

Kev needs to win us a champions league before comparing him to Zidane. I know it’s a bit daft to judge players on what they win, but Zidane performed in the biggest of games.

Zidane made the game look ridiculously easy and just had that look at times like he was the best player on the pitch but wasn't even trying. Kev reminds me of that when hes at his best, steps ahead of the rest of pitch and doing things no one else even thinks about.

Not sure i really agree as Kev has won plenty with City that should make that arguement a non starter really. CL is so hard to win and if he doesn't win it, that shouldn't define his legacy.

The likes of Keane, Scholes, Gerrard and Lampard will always be held in higher esteem by the media in this country largely because of their nationality and who they played for.

In my opinion, Fernandinho, David Silva, De Bruyne and Yaya Toure are all superior players to those four but they'll never quite get the credit they deserve because they played for Manchester City.

Gerrard wasn't even the best midfielder in that Liverpool side, Alonso was far, far superior.

I can understand why Liverpool fans consider Gerrard more of a legend given how long he stayed there and where he's from but if they were being honest, I think most of them would admit Alonso was a better player.
