I’m just reading on the BBC that KDB is surprised not to have received a contract offer and still feels he can play at the highest level.

Have we dropped the ball here. Gundo, who is older, get another year and KDB gets released. I love Gundo but I know who I’d rather have in the team, even if it’s only as an impact player
they’re both finished and neither should be here next season, still hoping we can get rid of Gundo

Ageing footballers convince themselves that they can play 'at the highest level'. It's all about pride in KDB's case as he could get more money than ever by signing for a Saudi club.

The great majority just end up as examples of dead horses flogging themselves wherever they go.

Time's been up at City for KDB and Bernardo for at least 18 months imo, but Gundogan can still do a job in a coaching role.

Excellent against palace, desperately bad yesterday. Right time to leave. Just hope he has a few palace like games in the last 5.

he can play at the top level but once in a blue moon these days.

I think he has more to offer than Gundo and Bernardo at this point, because they're offering very little. At least Kev delivers once in a while.

But you have to weigh it up, is it worth a new contract and wages to get half a dozen good games out of him a season?

As great as he has been, and he was truly great, the club have a business to run and need a sensible rebuild. It's just not great business to offer a player massively in decline a contract in the hope of getting a good game out of him now and again.

Time to move on

I don’t like it. Kev was our greatest ever player and is leaving with bad feelings. If his report that the club failed to discuss a contract or inform Kev of its intentions is accurate, he didn’t get the respectful treatment he deserved. Both can be true that his time was up and the club could have treated him better and honored him on the way out.

Not sure how the club could have treated him better after making the decision to not renew his contract.

He leaves a legend, will be getting his statue, what more could they have done?

The only thing I am surprised in is the seemingly lack of offer from NYCFC but in saying that Tolmie has said an offer is on the table.

Just wanted to start off by saying that I think it’s the right decision to let him go. But you can’t judge Kev off one bad game. Throughout his time at City, he often has played brilliantly then the next game had a stinker.

What we can judge him from is his fitness. He says he’s fully fit for the first time in months and at 34 years old that isn’t a great selling point when you’re after a new contract. The club have made a ruthless decision and I hope they’ve got plenty more of those decisions in the bank as there’s a few more that need to be given the chop.

What a gross way to speak of the two players who have done more for the club than any other.

So many City fans just don’t deserve the success of the last years if they can’t fucking deal with a dud season.

What have I said other than facts? I love them both but we can’t afford to have players on £400k a week who are no longer capable.

What’s wrong with that?

Are we in the business of paying people to do a job they can’t do out of loyalty? What good would it do Kev to sit on the bench all next season?

He can’t see it now but he’s legs are gone at this level.

desperately bad? He helped create the O'Reilly goal by smart play on the right supplying Nunes with a perfect pasHe also worked as hard as usual. Of course he is past his best and despite him wanting to leave has never given anything but 100% to us.

Yep. Still the leading chance creater per 90 mins in the league this season despite being hampered by injury and playing in pain. The two standout performances this season for me were him against Forest at home and Palace recently. Nobody else comes close. Plenty I'd rather see go before him and you should be careful what you wish for. People are judging him off previous seasons, but he's still the most creative player in the whole league.

Agree with what he said that if the team weren't so poor this season he'd have probably been offered another contract.

OK I will bite, WTF is a chance creator have we reinvented another name for failed assists?

Because Kev is nowhere near anyone on the assists table.

I guess you can spin it any way you like. If you put something on a plate for somebody and they miss it is a 'failed assist'.

Believe it or not I have been coaxed into going shopping to Aldi and M&S by her indoors, we don't even pass a pub so that's not on the cards.

The statistics is what kills you.

:)

Yes, it is dangerous not getting too bogged down with them. For a bit of context though Ratboy has played twice as many minutes as Kev, but only has 2 more assists. Then again with Rasmus and Zirkzee up front it's amazing he has any.

That was Bernardo?

Trouble is Gundo already has his extra year - loved what he's accomplished with us, but next years role has to be getting involved coaching wise and playing limited minutes closing games out and in the cups.
I don't see him leaving after we offered, and he accepted, the additional year
