1894 Group Banner

Who’s this virtue signalling wanker from the Guardian? What other subjects was he expecting an anti-UEFA protest going to cover? Anyway, the reply below is fucking class!

Can't be arsed engaging with him on Twitter but as for awareness, shit Coronation St piccies and liking them to The Fall isn't exactly being social aware.

‘Ooh ooh look at the noobs with a small post count’.

Makes you sound like a fucking child....which I’m sure you’re not in many cases.

Always makes me chuckle when I see this iih.

Who gives a shit really? Were all City fans having mega posts means you simply choose to post more in your leisure time or simply have more time to do it, it doesn’t make you some kind of Uber fan with special powers.

I've known Dante for a very long time.

He's been proactive about fan engagement for as long as I can remember.

He's a doer. He and 1894 deserve plenty of plaudits for trying to make things happen.

There will always be people with nothing nice to say.

He's also a handy bastard.
Actually he isnt handy at all.... He once bought a bed and a wardrobe and hadn't a clue how assemble them. Paid me a load of beers to put them up.....

I didn’t pay a penny towards it and the banner isn’t for me. However, they do an awful lot and good on them for that. The speed in which some fans have jumped on them, particularly on Twitter is frankly pathetic

I wouldn't take much notice of Twitter mate. It's where cowards go to pump their chests out.

I agree, it's not about post count at all. But a point was made about a certain few that seem to only pop out of the woodwork to take a pop when the club(and supporters) are there to be popped at. I think @cleavers post on this summed a few negative small post count posters up best.

In defence of some of those on social media that criticised it, I saw a few acounts and they are long time blues that have been going home and away for decades, and have never shied away from getting up and singing and getting behind the team.

But they are also probably of a different humour to this and even if calling it bobbins still support the message and the 1894 groups efforts.

When you have thousands upon thousands of hard core support not all will appreciate the same things, you see that in the podcast rivalries and even in the ground with such things as those that eyes light up at hearing the edin or going down with a billion in the bank songs and those that groan.

The message got across and got on the back pages of the press and on the news channels both here and overseas, that is all that counts.

Plus bert on bert has always been about as we are a right load of miserable bastards at heart ;-)

I really hope those inolved have thickened their skin enough not to take the bulk of what is on this thread personally.

In some ways, that is an inevitability of design of any kind, every fud thinks they can do better. Without a clue of the constraints and pressures involved. Given that everyone with any bit of computer software thought their designs/mockups for the club badge a few years back were the bestest and tore into the official one, with the same cliche statements, and every year a new kit is released we see people's versions of what it Should look like etc, the criticisms are hardly surprising.

However the negativity is for me a bit much, the claims of it being embarrassing, shameful etc etc, c'mon, bigger bloody picture. It is a banner, aimed at Uefa in this shitter of situation, and both the message and the effort absolutely desrves recognition and support, wherever your design philosophy convictions lie (and expertise for those that claim it).

What i think it desperately needs, is context, and timing, the lack of that really works against it. And that unfortunately is down to the broader circumstances, of which the entire move and idea is a victim of and can't do anything about.

At the stadium, on an occasion of a night, with fans and cameras... whole other setting and picture, and it takes a slight leap of imagination to appreciate that.
And the muppets thing, a
totally sellable notion and has a catch that sticks. Think of the Israeli sketch artist that went viral with the caricature of the group of politicians as pigs, with enough parallels to make the connection, still gets mileage. With enough of a followthrough these types of things grow organically, and who know where they go, perhaps it leads to the muppets theme tune competing with the uefa anthem at home games one day! Heck im sure some thought inflatable bananas were embarrassing and immature, or the poznan unoriginal and laughable by other clubs, yet i love both.

There's fuck all point discussing whether there is enough or too much white space, what font they should have used, if elmo is a true enough redemblance if less is more or a bore, what other clubs might think or have done. It is an effort to show support to the club, show Uefa som cheek, and that's all that matters for me, so i'll go ahead and praise that.

The banner would have been absolutely perfect AT THE GAME v Madrid.....unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

It’s impact has of course been watered down dramatically as a result. Where is CAS located exactly?

To criticise its content is typical of the whingy society we live in.....I’ve done fuck all to contribute so I’ll keep any kind of unwanted critique to myself.....well played 1894.
