1894 Group Banner

‘ It’s just a Banner ‘ and you call me Ignorant FFS.
It is just a banner.

Your implication was that I wasn’t a time served supporter. I am but that isn’t the point. Sanctimonious shouty types like jrb falsely assume that there’s some kind of supporter pecking order based on years served or,pathetically, forum joining date. That mindset only exists on this forum. We were all new supporters once. We all stood on the terraces as our dads / older brothers introduced us to their City mates. Don’t remember them being so hostile.

As with most articles there seems to be a bit of Journalistic licence in the article. But the vast majority of the article is correct.

Manchester City fans to reveal banner protest against Uefa as club prepare CAS appeal

A group of Manchester City supporters will vent their anger towards Uefa on Friday by unveiling a huge banner protesting against the governing body’s treatment of the club.

The 1894 Group plans to unveil the banner, which pokes fun at Uefa, at a secret location in Manchester on Friday afternoon.

The unveiling comes three days before the Court of Arbitration for Sport hears City’s appeal against the two-year ban that Uefa handed down for breaking Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

The 1894 Group, which has over 1,000 members, launched a GoFundMe page two days after the decision was announced in February. Over £8,000 was raised in three days, with donations ranging from £5 to £500.

It has spent most of the money on four banners, the biggest measuring 42m x 20m. It had intended to unfurl them at City’s Champions League game against Real Madrid, but that match will now take place behind closed doors, so they will be revealed at another location instead.

One of the three smaller banners references the famous Mancunian band New Order, quoting their first album “Power, corruption and lies”. The other two say, “Uefa mafia — corrupting football since 1954” and “FFP — where were you when we were shit”.

“There’s been lots of issues about the way Uefa have treated the fans, but this is about the way they’ve treated the club,” said Dante Friend, a spokesperson for the independent fans group.

“The message we want to send to Uefa is that Financial Fair Play was just created to try and protect the elite and that we know they simply don’t want the new kids on the block, City, to be part of their club.”

It's great that you guys have gone to the time and effort to organise this, clearly the sentiments are shared by the vast majority of City fans.

Unfortunately with everything else going on in the world right now, it feels like the message might be lost because other more important issues are quite understandably forefront in people's mind's.

I appreciate it's time sensitive and you need to get it out before the CAS hearing starts, but I hate to say, I wouldn't be surprised if we get hammered for this in the press and social media for being out of touch with the public mood.

TBH I've been out of the 1894 loop for a while, so all credit to the other 1894 members who have put so much time and effort into the banner/s. I'll be there Tomorrow helping out.

The press aren't always hostile to City and City fans. ;-)

I like the banner, nothing embarrassing about it at all
Prob 8 million more embarassing things in the world that this.
Great effort 1894 group.

Because I was amused by the way that the website informed us with such gravitas that the banner would be unveiled at a secret location. It’s a group of lads picking up a banner from the local printers and rolling it out in one of their back gardens not an official state opening of a commemorative statue of a great leader.

Errrrr....ok

It was explained to you way back in this thread why the location is secret, yet all you’ve done is try and deflect and call other posters out. Just in case you didn’t get it first time, I’ll spell it out again. You may have noticed that there’s a virus going round which has infected millions of people worldwide and killed hundreds of thousands into the bargain. It’s such a serious matter that all mass gatherings have been banned and continue to be. Now none of that may be of any importance to brain dead wankers such as yourself (and looking at some of your posts in the Covid-19 football thread, I get the impression that you don’t give much of a shit about it), but to many of us who believe in applying commonsense and continue to follow the guidelines it’s of paramount importance to us. And that obviously extends to the 1894 Group who clearly have that same commonsense not to reveal the location as that in turn could lead to crowds of people turning up and breaching rules on social distancing, etc.

I hope that clears things up for you.

You’re as daft as a brush and a gobby little shit to boot.

Crowds of people are going to turn up to see a banner ? I know people are bored during what’s left of lockdown but I’m not having that.

To lighten the mood, and to put things into some sort of perspective.

None of the 1894 lads have a big enough garden to fit a *42m x 20m banner*, as well as the people that will be there and will have to social distance tomorrow.

Try calling me a gobby little shit to my face. The only daft **** on here is you because only a complete and utter clown could say with total confidence that no-one would turn up. You’re probably one of those whoppers who thinks no Liverpool fans would turn up at a behind closed doors game to celebrate them winning the league ffs.

It’s ok mate because Boris Becker’s Bellend has kindly offered to lend them the use of his garden for the day

Fails to understand original point. Tick.

Resorts to mild abuse and name calling. Tick.

Adopts persona of internet tough guy while sitting in bedroom of mummy’s house. Tick.

Jesus you’re just a stereotypical internet moron. You are laughable.

Didn’t say nobody would turn up. just not a crowd and as such depending on the location I’d have thought social distancing wouldn’t be a problem.
