1894Group statement on the atmosphere in full here

It's the perfect opportunity, with the stadium expansion to finally sort out the atmosphere, we don't want it to be like The Emirates, we need to have a concerted effort to have a singing section, who get in early, get the place rocking, and encourage everyone else to get to their sets before kick-off!
Look at the big German clubs, even Palace, they get the place rocking, loads of atmosphere, intimidation for the opposition etc, and it would also encourage everyone else to join in..
Failing that, you could always pipe in crowd noise using the advances in acoustic and sound technology we have these days!
I hope tonight we have a decent atmosphere, I want my son's first game to be one he remembers for the right reasons, I don't want him to be moaning he's cold and bored!!!

Hammers fans on Saturday were very loud when they got going - oh for a lovely old ground again!! they'll lose all that when they go to the Olypic Stadium unless they are very lucky.

The past has shown there's nothing wrong with the atmosphere at the Etihad.

What's obvious is that it's people that make the atmosphere, not purely the location of the people.

I've been in 111 since they designated it the 'singing section' - what's happened year after year is that the number of people joining in with singing/chants/atmosphere is dropping.

There's a number of factors: Price v disposable income, kick off times, policing & stewarding. The biggest one, which i think everyone tends to miss, is that the 'fear' and 'hope' of success are less. We're a team that is expected to win every game at home and almost every game away. There are less and less good surprises, less and less to fight against the odds for, less of a perceived need to come together and (vocally) support.

You can't change that fact when you're a team at the top of the PL. And i don't ever want to be in a section like in Germany, where i can't see the game because of the flags and i've got some pony-tailed 'Dave from accounts' telling me what to do and say over a megaphone.

Appreciate I've not proposed any solutions to the issues, but i think it's an undeniable effect from becoming a successful club. The best way to 'force' a better atmosphere is to lower prices of tickets, sustenance and merchandise and give fans the opportunity to focus on enjoying the day, rather than thinking about their finances.

re the constant mentions of "put the family stand in level 3" - it will never happen because most kids like to watch the action from close up and see the players faces, not squint at them from high above. I know when i was a kid i loved being right at the front (ie front 10 rows).

(and i don't have any kids.. so have never sat in the family stand, but just wanted to comment!)

Yes that's fine but an off shoot of doing this is that you have a poor atmosphere in the stadium. When an entire one quarter of the ground is families and kids then you'll get no singing from that side. It means you'll never get a decent atmosphere going.

Personally I think the club should shift the family stand to either Colin Bell or East Stand level 3.

Non-starter due to all the "kid friendly" adaptations made to the NS concourse over the past 3 seasons.

Definitely this. I remember whenever my dad would take me to Maine road when I was 7 or 8ish.. I always wanted to be on the front row. Hate it these days mind you id rather but up the top to see tactics and moves etc but i definitely agree with getting the kids near to the action.

Not just kids, most adults as well , that is why the 3rd tiers sell out last.

Little consideration is being shown for other fans on this thread, just getting people to move isn't an option.

Recently new season ticket holders like the OP can't just decide where others should sit, people have made their choices over the last 11 plus years and newcomers need to adapt not dictate.
disagree, a lot of adults want to watch the match from alongside the pitch from an elevated position so the can see the movement, changes in formation and to check if we have defensive cover when we lose the ball near the opposition's box, but as the level 3 tickets are dearer than the SS and it can take a month to get out of the ground after the game if you are in the upper rows, many decide to get a poorer view with better accessibility

People just need to keep on singing WHEREVER they sit. You cannot force this though, it is up to the fans themselves.

I sing and shout and cheer whether I am home or away and even when I'm the only person in my row/area. I sometimes get laughed at/with but nobody tells me what to do or to be quiet so it is individual and the atmosphere, in my humble opinion, is not that bad.

Just been in Witherspoons in picadili and 3 girls were throw out for singing the yaya toure song. The 4 of us who are life long city fans were furious as it was ridiculous. It turns out that a girl who was a united fan took offence at the song and the doorman was a United fan. Would love to make this a thread on its own but don't have enough forum privelages. Big concern centers around any blues callnig there before Sundays game. For me, avoid at all costs

The extension of the stadium is the perfect opportunity to stick the away fans up in the gods and have a city end behind the goal. That will automatically improve the atmosphere. Good luck to the 1894 group. They are doing their best!!
