Absolutely no problem with him being at the club in a coaching role during a rebuild of the squad, but it's clear he's got very little to offer on the pitch anymore.
He is like many of our current crop , well past his best unable to influence the outcome of any game he is involved to our benefit and aging quickly.

He is getting game time because we have a small squad and we have one of the poorest midfields going around in terms of age , speed and strength at least of the clubs in the top dozen or so in the premier league.

if he triggers the clause then so be it but for the remainder of this season and next season if we are be more assertive and create more chances in games he should only be a bit part player not a starter bar local cup games and when injuries give the manager little alternative.

The difference of his influence on games now which won't get much better even if we had Rodri and other key players fit in the line up compared to prior his leaving for Barcelona is more than stark.

Dont blame him for getting older and slower , he is human. He was not supposed to be playing every game but we have had too many injuries to not do so, lets see how he is with a week off till villa . He will be as frustrated as fuck

He has been a major part in our sucess so be nice

What about the squad space he'll be taking up?
It's not the most ideal. But it's doable. Madrid is carrying Modric, Joselu and one or 2 others on their bench.

I'm saying I can live with it. But can't have 4 or them all starting. That's a huge problem.

Pep either has to change system or change players.

Can't disagree with that last bit.

Pep changing the system would probably have happened by now so it's the players

Needs to retire from top level football...

Needs to be gone in the summer.....end of....awful every game since his return

Was good yesterday. Has been pretty good the past few weeks. But at 60 minutes yesterday, you could see he was absolutely knackered and that is the biggest issue. He has been overplayed and it should never have been this way
He was OK yesterday, this was most probably because the pace of the game was pedestrian, it was probably his best game since returning, but he shouldn't be having to play every 3 days, we all know why he is though, same applies to KdB. Bernardo still has his duracell bunny battery, but his form is certainly down over the last 12 months.

There, are three reasons why we are miles off just now, not to mention Phil is nowhere near his level of last season.

He was OK because Rag midfield is total sh*t.

Said it 5 weeks ago and I’ll say it again.

He’s absolutely shot to pieces, had ample amount of time and chances to show he can still offer something but has done the sum of fuck all since returning and is clearly hindering the team.

Runs in treacle. But expected - by Pep - to get up and down the pitch to track runners. Madness.

Go back to page 10 and in SEPTEMBER we were all saying he doesn't have it anymore.

Pep says he doesn't want to play the youngsters and leave the established played to get us out of this mess but they are incapable. We will continue to lose while Gundogan, Walker and Bernardo are playing more than 30 minutes between them.

Thought there were signs in recent games that he was finding some form - but I can't defend his performance today. Mind you he was not alone Kova, Lewis, Bernie and Walker were absolutely shocking. If I was a young player I'd be asking what the hell do I have to do to get in this team?
