19 | Ilkay Gundogan - 2024/25

There’s a lot of 20/20 hindsight on here. As I recall, the predominant feeling was positive when we heard he was coming back.

He was brought in to supplement - not replace - the midfield and be played relatively sparingly. Circumstances haven’t allowed that.

To be fair, he was hardly on fire before we hit the buffers but he’s the sort of canny old guy you hope might be influential in the run-in.
I was absolutely buzzing when he came back, loads of us were.

Comfortably one of our better performers last night, went to shit once he was subbed.
Helped having Lewis push into midfield with him. Hardly rocket science - with someone else close to him and the team fairly compact, he‘s fine as a 6. Stood on his own with acres of space either side of him, he‘s getting to get exposed.

Yeah, I thought he had a good solid game and had left the pitch when we had two hands, all fingers, both feet and eleven cocks wrapped round the three points.

Liked how he controlled the tempo

Maybe all what he needs is few goals to ease his nerves and get back to his best
we're talking about a dutch team from a league that's below the championship in quality which isn't even in top 3 there rn- a league where the fucking antony looked like a world-beater. so, I wouldn't read too much into that.

against very mediocre oppenents it might work with him and someone else as a double pivot but its for sure one of our biggest weak points.
