Next summer, why would it not make sense to position yourself as a 35 year old’s understudy instead of a 23 year old’s? When will he overtake Haaland in the pecking order here? The answer is never. Literally never. When will he overtake Lewandowski? When age does it’s thing. It makes no sense to leave City because you are behind Haaland, just to go to be behind Lewandoski in Barcelona.
I doubt there's any substance to this.
Because he doesn't want to go be anyone's understudy. If you are leaving a great team like City, you better go to start somewhere, not to be a backup on a lesser team. Specially considering the lack of true great strikers in current football. Off the top of my head: Chelsea, United, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Bayern. All big clubs where he would instantly become a starter.Next summer, why would it not make sense to position yourself as a 35 year old’s understudy instead of a 23 year old’s? He’ll never be first choice striker whilst Haaland is here, we are unlikely to play regularly with 2 up top whilst Pep is here, and no guarantee to play 2 up top after he leaves either, and we’re in the market for a winger in the summer which reduces the chances of him playing there too. So what gives? I hope he extends, but I don’t for the life of me see how he plays regularly for us any time soon, barring a serious Haaland injury.
