What do the following have in common with their first year at City?

Grealish
Rodri
Riyad
Bernardo

So I'm just gonna chillax!

I heard many rumors that say Gundogan doesn't want to play with him, that he never passes the ball to him and always looks for any other option instead. I doubt that could true but maybe somebody else has more details about this rumor and would like to share the info.

Stupid rumours , just that , he is being eased in as many young players with pep are and thor has the strikers shirt

There was nothing wrong with the false 9 system at City, and Alvarez would probably have slotted into it quite nicely. As much as fans won't want to admit it, we really didn't need to sign Haaland. As impressive as he's been over the season, all that has really achieved is unsettling the flow of our game.

We’ve watched 2 seasons of missed chances. We definitely needed Haaland.

The false 9 worked well but at the detriment of having a clinical finisher. We relied on Gundo in 20/21 to score 15+ goals which we couldn’t expect to be repeated then last season on a few players stepping up which we couldn’t expect to be repeated.

Besides, Pep likes to change things tactically - we went from pacey wingers galore to none in the space of 2 years. A focal point up top is a must.

You need a goal scorer in your team. Simple as that. Sergio was why we won so much, for example, and without Haaland’s goals this season we’d have been fucked.

What’s wrong with 5 players scoring 10 goals rather than one man scoring 50? Harder to stop.
Haaland has disrupted our style. Alvarez has more energy, movement would have fitted in perfectly and scored plenty anyway.

I honestly can't see him staying while Haaland is around. He's not going to get a game while Pep is effectively forced to try to accommodate Haaland tactically.

Alvarez won't improve as long as he's not playing regularly, and 10/25 minute cameos are no good for him.

I would be disappointed, but not at all surprised to see him sold at a huge profit in the summer.
I think we needed a top scorer and that was why we went in for Erling but if I am being honest, I agree with what you've said about his style making us a bit predictable. I preferred the false 9 set up with two fast wingers.

I’m not really sure what is going to happen with Alvarez tbh. He’s too talented to be reduced to the role he currently has. We’re unlikely to ever change to playing with 2 strikers on a regular basis and equally, Alvarez is unlikely to ever be picked over Haaland for any sustained period of time. So the only solution to get him in the team more is to play him wide, but Pep prefers control out there, which Alvarez doesn’t offer. Also, we are likely to buy a winger in the summer which would further limit those possibilities for Julian. I’d hate to see us lose him before we really get chance to enjoy him but how long can he be content with this, realistically, especially considering the hurdles I’ve just mentioned in terms of actually getting him on the pitch regularly? Something has to give.

We watched two seasons of missed chances and won the league in both of them.

We've watched half a season of Haaland, seen him score bucketloads, and you (not unreasonably in my view) reach the conclusion that we'd have been 'fucked without him'.

Not criticising your opinion, it just seems to support the view that signing Haaland has had a negative impact on the team generally.

Coming back to the Alvarez thread, I think both of our views on this season show that Alvarez has been hard done by. It would be a real shame to see him leave City without him being given a proper chance to show what he can add to the team.
