He got two lucky bounces back to him, clearly a very talented and hardworking player but it's a bit embarrassing to see City and other blues pretending that was a Maradona-esque run. If Rashford or Salah scored that goal we'd all be calling it what it was: fortunate.

He's a different type of beast, nobody said he was Maradona, Messi or even Rashford or Salah. This guy has been crucial for his national squad the entire tournament so far, that's not a coincidence and it's definitely not luck. Nevertheless, i agree that luck was on his side in this last goal but he helped a lot.

I think what Pep does with him in the 2nd half of the season will have a massive say on whether or not we have a successful season. If Pep plays him more often than not, I can only see good things happening. If he continues to favour others like Mahrez and Grealish then I think it becomes more difficult.

A midfield duo of Rodri and Bernie with Alvarez, KDB and Foden in front with Haaland up top.

Perhaps he made his own luck ?

He's a key part of this Argentina side with a number of incredible qualities that will make him a world class player for years to come.

That was still a deeply lucky goal. IMO it's doing him a huge disservice to claim otherwise as, when all is said and done and he retires, that goal will not even break his top 50. He really should have been dispossessed.

That only stands up if you say the same thing every time a player scores a fortunate deflection or gets a lucky rebound. Sometimes goals in football are lucky and that's fine. It irks me when we pretend they're magical.

Seems to be ok for rags or dipper players !

Will still stand on the scoresheet

I like the way Argentina started the World Cup with Martinez up front, and clearly Alvarez has shown a lot in training which has perhaps even surprised the manager

One of the first names on the teamsheet once we get back up and running again
