Making him play as winger or midfielder for so long has definitely been detrimental to him.

With Pep continually switching his position, striker, winger, midfield, bench or starter, he's become a jack of all trades master of none.

I agree he is no Messi or Ronaldo, but he suits our style. No outstanding attribute but great allrounder. The whole team play better with him up front as we’ve seen this season. 12 games without EH, 11 wins, 1 draw, over 3 goals per game average.

Think he's covered every blade of grass and his control has vastly improved.

He is at a low level, but he is way more involved in the game. Also, notice that his movement inside the box is more varied than Haaland's, especially on crosses. When Doku crosses the ball with Haaland, we never produce any danger, but today we did because Julian attacks the ball leaving space for the runners to come from behind

Better footballer than Haaland, but just about on a par with Jesus as a goalscorer.
Nowhere near good enough as a back up for Haaland at City.

What reason we using for this game then?

The usual favourites are: wrong position or he needs a rest.
Struggle to use either of them though.
