Why did we have to play in knickers, but Everton were allowed to wear their shorts?

The FA hated us, even back then!

Shorts were tied with string. Knickers had cheap elastic that kept stretching too far. We lost because players were too busy stopping their knickers falling down.

Great find, don't hear much I've not heard before on city but never knew it was scarlet not naroon.

I was at Goodson that game and clearly remember them trotting out in that kit which sent us City fans mad, hence the chant.
Actually I thought it was “we don’t want red” but that kit became iconic.
