1970's MCFC

Never forget League cup semi in 76 the atmosphere on the Kippax was the best I can ever remember. One down from the first , two up at half time, just got back in with a couple of pints after half time when we scored again, beer went everywhere whole place going f**king mental. Whatever we achieve now don't think we'll ever top the feeling of that four nil win over Boro. Mind you then I was young and crazy now I am old and dull, think my generation had the best of it.
A little aside to that tie, I was in the merchant navy at the time and my ship was in Salford docks for the 1st leg and yes we were in Teesport (M/Boro ) for the 2nd leg.... sods law eh

Sunderland have still got an ongoing rivalry and hatred of Coventry over that
Think the rivalry was more for Jimmy Hill, the Chairman of Coventry ?
Didn't he supposedly delay the kick off for the Coventry v Bristol City game ?
This gave both clubs an advantage, as the other matches were completed and a draw ensured both Coventry & Bristol were safe if they drew.
Which they did, poor old Sunderland were therefore relegated...

My grandparents lived in Fallowfield growing up, as my dad was in the RAF we moved around a lot so would only come to Manchester for my holidays, anyway whenever we drove up Lloyd Street I would look down all the roads looking towards the ground to see if I could see anything going on! The funny thing after living in Manchester for a while in the 1990s I moved away and only returned following our move to Eastlands, but it took a few years for me to stop looking down those roads off Lloyd Street, really sad when you remember they have moved and the area seems dead, when on match days it was always so alive, great memories.

Walking to the games with my granddad was magical and made every one of my holidays special, I couldn't wait to move to Manchester when I was able!
i still look down the side roads now when i go down princess rd

City fans in Leeds 1977

Brilliant watch that. That was a magnificent City following. If only we had police like that copper who came on the train threatening to "thump" the blue rather than the 'petrified of being filmed doing something wrong' lot we have today. It was before my time, but I been to that shithole many times and had to stand and fight or else be killed. But I can imagine it was 10x worse in them days.

Standout games for me:-

First game v Blackpool 1961

Bert's testimonial match 1964,

City 1 Swindon 2 8,015 lowest crowd ever (Buzzer scored for them)

Frannie's debut Beat Wolves 2-0

Brilliant save by Alan Ogley in a Reserve match, tipping it over the bar

Big fight in the centre circle with the mascots over a flag, City V Liverpool

Everton mascot throwing toffees into the crowd before the game

The ballet on ice. v Spurs 1967

And of course Newcastle away, May 1968.
