Les Tate ;)Loved the 70s remember one Friday night late on getting the coach run by the City lads to Ipswich for the Saturday game, long time ago don't remember many names Lee Tate was on and after the match we piled back on the coach and ended up in pubs and finished off in some club in Felexstowe, fun and games that night police vans and cars with the blue lights flashing escorted us out of town and the county, happy days.
At the final whistle we piled from the r/h side of the Lever End. I kicked in the front door panel of a parked Jag. Dark Brown leather sole 'Oxford's' I've never been at ease with that action. Long time ago mind.I got whacked across the back of the legs by a copper with a signalling stick outside Bolton train station before the League Cup game in 1971,when we got beat 3-0.
I was only watching all the scrapping going on as well.
Yes I did mean Les.Les Tate ;)
Yes I did mean Les.
I remember watching them play for Luton (?) against us before they joined in a 2nd replay of a cup game at old trafford. Had a piss on the back wall of the stretford end that night. Happy days.My thought process was that Ron was only at City for a season or two, but that Paul stayed a while longer.
But it was over 40 years ago,so I may well be wrong.
I remember staying behind in the Kippax for about 30 mins singing after that game. One of the great atmospheres I ever experienced.Never forget League cup semi in 76 the atmosphere on the Kippax was the best I can ever remember. One down from the first , two up at half time, just got back in with a couple of pints after half time when we scored again, beer went everywhere whole place going f**king mental. Whatever we achieve now don't think we'll ever top the feeling of that four nil win over Boro. Mind you then I was young and crazy now I am old and dull, think my generation had the best of it.
Always fancied myself as a goalkeeper when I was young man. Joe was a cracking keeper and my favourite for a long time.I was there and still can’t believe that save Joe made.
