1970's MCFC

Going to sound like a old fart but I loved football back in the 70s, meeting up with mates on a frosty/foggy/wet/grey (usually all four) saturday morning to see who was coming to maine road, pay on the gate unless it was all ticket, standing in the usuall place on the Kippax, 3pm kick off, singing all the songs,
I can remember when every city player had there own song, ok it might just be "one Kenny Clements" but most of the players gave the kippax a wave or nod after there song,
Laughing late in the game as the tannoy gave out the "official" attendance?
I just loved the buzz of excitement & anticipation before the game & away games could be even more interesting & dangerous!

The seventies when you could smell the atmosphere as you walked down the ginnel between Platt lane and the Kippax. When football was a battle on and off the pitch. Standing, football specials, finglands coaches. Having a club that is streets ahead of its rivals in terms of its vision and the teams success is great, but the game is different and so is the matchday experience. If I had the choice of watching the City (and the game) of the 70s or today, I think I might just plump for the better game and atmosphere from back then.

And the 80's as well mate

Fred and Sid know lads in that photo.........we were on our way to Leeds FA cup......77 or 78
Yes pal one or two of them do look familiar.
Trouble is that we used to see lads for an away match or two and then others would take their place for the next match or two.
Most of them were from the Burnage/Chorlton/Withington area.
Me and my pal Barry were the odd ones out being from Middleton.
But we were all Blues, that is what counted.

In those days there were loads of mobs. Totally different back then.

I travelled to aways either hiring my own vans or on coaches we chartered or on Donalds coaches or go/jib on service trains
