I find it hard to remember this match, not because we lost, but not mentioned
much in the grand scheme of things, anybody any good or bad memory's of this
final.

I remember it well.
We were a sure thing to win the final, everybody wrote off Wolves. It was my first final and I was 17.
Broke my heart when we got beat. Pearce the Wolves keeper had the game of his life and to cap it all he was a greater manchester lad from Mossley. It was Rodney Marsh prancing about that gave them their winner. Derek Dougan who could put himself about I remember gave us problems all day. But with the star studded side we had out it should have been a cake walk. Anyway we made up for it in 76 against the Geordies but 74 was a sad day indeed.

For a Wolves fan as a lickle kid this was our dream........we were pretty good but unpredictable in those days, we had a habit of losing key games. The year before we lost in both semi -finals - Spurs over 2 legs 4-3 in the league cup, 1-0 to jammy Leeds at maine Road in the Fa Cup semi despite outplaying them and hitting post twice, then Billy Bremner scored. The year before we had lost to Spurs in the UEFA Cup final after being Juventus in the Q-F over 2 legs. So we were expecting to lose to a City side with Lee, Summerbee, Bell, Marsh, Doyle. 1st half kenny Hibbitt deservedly gave us a 1-0 half time lead but then came a City onslaught and Gary Pierce kept us in the game. Bell slammed home the equaliser, and with 7 minutes to go Rodney Marsh made an error and John Richards fired the home. The League Cup meant more in those days, still some way behind the FA Cup of course but it was well worth winning. It was a great final, great atmosphere, not too disimilar when you beat Newcastle.

Met a couple of Jocks before the game, so was totally mousebottomed before, during and after the match.Which deadend the pain. I believe Marsh refused to collect his medal.

marsh walked off to the dressing room instead of collecting his medal. this was the one time when city were nailed on favourites to win a final.

yes went down sarf in an old morris minor with only one headlight. i could write a book about that trip

on the day we had too many players coming back from injury who werent match fit. i think franny and micky doyle, but i think there was someone else who wasnt match fit

we were nailed on favourites for this cup with an amazing front 5, but their goalie had a blinder..........

Marsh was so upset he didn't go up to collect his losers medal......

Rodney Marsh could have won the game for us but his ego wouldnt let him just put the ball in the net,it had to be a special goal, and he curled one wide and put another into the keepers chest.Although i was delighted when we signed him and cheered his dribbling and piss-taking the team spirit we had seemed to disappear. Man for man we should have murdered wolves but never took them seriously enough on the day.

I remember it being like a re-run of England v Poland the year before. Should have murdered them both on paper and on the day but simply couldn't score the vital goal(s).

Seem to remember Wolves were a bit of a bogey team at the team. As the other poster says, they could be very good but unpredicatble.
