1980's Umbro City Shirts

What a brilliant thread.
I had a wonderful yellow Tony Coton top which blew off the washing line and was never seen again.

1981-82 First Division match worn Bobby McDonald shirt.

This was the third season in a row this style was worn but the first with the circular badge following two seasons with the COA.

Bobby can be seen in the shirt during a 1-0 City victory over Coventry City on 12th December 1981.

Christmas 1981. I was 8, and I'd dropped hint after hint that I wanted the home kit for chrimbo. Can you imagine the excitement on my face when I opened the box from Tyldesley and cook sports shop.. that excitement turned to disappointment when I realised it was the away kit :( I was gutted! I was City mad and loved all things blue. Anyway, I put it on and knocked on for my best mate of the time(another blue) who said he loved it..then a few other blues seen it and loved it. All of a sudden I was in love with this black n red beauty. The next day, I remember playing on the pitch at the side of our house in my new kit and I kept running in to get the score at Dippers away..we were winning. I'll always remember listening to the last 10 mins on the radio and my dad saying "these bastards will get an equaliser". But they didn't, we won 3-1. Its mad how a kit can evoke so many memories. Great pictures City Shirts.

Mick McCarthy debut at Cambridge 17/12/83. Forty bloody years ago this weekend. I was 17 at the time stood behind the goal at the then Cabbage Patch End, it was when I first realised we had a long way back. Mick wore number 6 on his debut.View attachment 101135
Great picture mate, first time I'd seen that one and how I'd love to trace that SAAB short sleeved number six shirt Mick wore that afternoon !!
