1980's Umbro City Shirts

I remember us playing QPR on a Sunday away - we had stayed the night before in Windsor and the following morning i woke up with a monumental hangover - seeing this at Loftus Road trotting out didnt help to soothe my poor old napper
I don’t think we wore that shirt that day, fairly sure it had black block stripe with white piping in it. I went to that game on the service, watched first half in the Springbok pub, think we were 3-0 down at half time so fucked the game off and got service home.

I wax more leathered- which is why I probably remember it better!
My biggest memory of that weekend wasntt the match, but from the night before in Windsor..kicked what I thought was an empty box...only turned put to have a full fucking cake in it. Exposed all over me..the rest of the night was spent from pub to pub looking like a cream donught..much to my mates amusement

The elusive Kappa 3rd shirt was worn just the five times against QPR, Portsmouth, Huddersfield, Reading & Birmingham during the 97/98 season.

Kevin Horlock’s match worn shirt v QPR...26th October 1997.

Even rarer is ‘Super Kev’ in shorts sleeves !!!

Beautiful kit and never sold as a replica IIRC. I went to all the games you referenced- Birmingham went 1-0 up in 88th minute and lost 2-1.
Huddersfield I think was a night match - Beardsley played for us, think we won 3-1. Murders that night in and around the ground and town centre.
Pompey I think we won 3-0, Rosler got the last goal.
Reading - think we lost 2-0 again a night match. Possibly their last season at Elm Rd. stadium.
The QPR game was on a Sunday I think and televised. As posted previously I watched first half in pub and sure we were already 3-0 down so tucked off back on service at half time.
Grim season, results-wise but loved barrelling around to watch us at every game.

‪Original match ball used during City’s 10-1 victory over Huddersfield Town on 7th November 1987 which was awarded to City’s David White, one of three treble scorers that day.

Do you think we’ll ever do anyone by 10 again? There have been a few games over the years where I think we could have done it. Rags sick swan being a prime example.

Burton in he League Cup 2019 was close of course but personally I think it could be written in stars when we play Huddersfield at home in the FA Cup :-)
