1986 youth team

David White would have got in the team. Scored 19 goals in the premier league 92 to 93 before some idiot sold him. The leading scorer the next season was Mike Sheron with 6.
Lakey would have made the team as well

Lake would get in no problem. We was only talking about that team at the last home game, I agreed with one of my mates that we ruined Redmond, he was captaining a very poor side at 19. Ian Scott was an excellent and often forgotten player who like Lake was ruined by injury early on. White may have got a place on the bench and Brightwell would have been a good squad player a bit like Zabba was before he started holding down a place.

-- Mon Jan 14, 2013 9:39 pm --

the idiot that sold him knew he was fucked with injury, although I did agree with the idiot comment at the time.

Lakey would get in the side on most match days. I think you could also present strong cases for Hinchcliffe and White who both went on to full England honours to be part of a 25 man squad getting game time.

Sadly a step to far for Bob Brightwell and Stevie Redmond although I loved both Lads at the time.

Now then, seen as Mancini is starting to give some of the youth lads a game here and there, I've been thinking how many of the youth cup winning team from 86, would be good enough to hold down a regular place in the current side, for me the core of that team which was Hinchcliffe, Redmond, Brightwell, Lake, White, Moulden and Scott, at least 4 would get in the current team.

The full 12 is :

1. Crompton
2. Millis
3. Hinchcliffe
4. Brightwell
5. Redmond
6. Thackeray
7. White
8. Moulden
9. Lake
10. Scott
11. Boyd
12. Macauley

Have a look and decide who you think would be good enough.

Good old Scotty. Top coach, great man, came to my wedding with his wife. Terrible knee injury in the days before big money [like the rest of 'em]. Love and respect, Ian.

Went to school with Hinchy, another great guy [save for the Everton quotes but hey...].

Saw most of 'em play for the firsts. That trophy was a great pride for us when we were down and out.

Moulden had the records, could score but never convinced.

Brightwell scored the greatest ever goal at OT and I was behind it in the scoreboard. He came over to the Kippax for ages when he retired. A gent.

Davy White, got us an England cap in dark days and scored four at Villa Park when we won 5-1 [Kendall I think], freezing cold night.

Redmond was our scouse captain for a few years and is prob one of the most underrated City players ever. Just a bit short for centre half.

Met Lakey, saw his debut, saw his injury, saw his tongue swallow and the rest. Can't even speak about it all, what a waste...

Tommy Muir had the five signed England U21 shirts, Redmond, White, Hinchliffe, Scott and Lake [captain]. #sigh#

But we have no history... CTID

Paul Lake would get in White and Hinchcliffe squad players ,would have liked to put Redmond in and perhaps playing with better players and the improved training he may have made the squad too?

I think Ian Scott was quite highly thought of at the club at one time. He made his debut in the first game of the 87/88 season iirc, which was around the same time as Hinchcliffe. He scored a goal against Millwall early that season but fell away due to an almost complete lack of physical presence imo, injury or not.

He was sold to Stoke and slipped down the leagues, sadly. Must be a difficult and cruel way for a football career to play out.

In terms of the OP: Paul Lake.

David White might be an option from the bench, I guess.

Edit: found that Millwall game.

Only Lake and White would have any kind of chance , but i doubt whether either would play many games in this current City side.

david white was fast very fast infact and would have been up with the best from the game today speed is what every club are looking for right now

paul lake well you could play the game for another 100 years and he would fit in the team and still be a england captain aswell

very sad about lakey pure and simple the best youth player we have had

Lake, every day.

I always wondered about Moulden. Did he suffer from bad coaching, or did he not kick on from his youth days?

Lake would have eventually strolled into whichever team took his fancy, home and abroad IMHO and would have captained England for years, a real shame his career was cruelly cut short. I remember going to the first leg of that youth cup final at the swamp where, iirc we took about 10,000!
