2 | Kyle Walker - 2024/25

I think Gvardiol is more at fault - if you look at the goal and the effort before it he's all at sea.
He’s marking Calafiori - they’re body to body at the kick and then he reaches to pull Martinelli away from Ederson. He doesn’t appear to be more adrift prior to the kick than any of the big men. I don’t necessarily think it’s Walkers fault either - the coaching staff should have known that was coming and had a better plan. The fact Doku marked Gabriel for the first corner indicates to me a lack of planning.

He and Stones did well tonight, what with a kid at left back and a kid in the Rodri position. Nursed them both through professionally and got much needed minutes in their legs and air in their lungs.

Why do that when KW simply didn’t control the ball ? That lack of control led immediately to their chance, which you have to say was a great finish.
I agree that it was a lovely finish but both Walker and Gvardiol were caught on the run and couldn’t control the ball because their body shapes were out of balance.

Too often we pile in on the defence and defenders when we should maybe be looking at the players ahead who give the ball away in the first place and how. It’s a team game so, for me, responsibility should be shared.
