Very encouraging signs with Bernardo. Looks like he's getting his mojo back.
Funny watching him v Rodri: no contest.
Didn't see the Portugal game. Was he ace then?

He wasn't spectacular, but he came on as sub & was full of energy & just looked better than anyone on either side, plus Cancelo suddenly looked a threat, using Bernardo's movement.
He did Rodri on one instance when the two were right next to the sideline, turned him & his mate inside out in a space the size of a phonebox then ran away from him & left him floundering.
That's what he wasn't doing last season. It's like he forgot his touch or something. If he can find that 'jinkyness' again, combined with his industry and usual sharpness, then we've got him back. And he's world class when he's like that.
Can't agree more. There was a hell and heaven difference between the cancelo first half and second half performance for Portugal against Spain yesterday. He played much better when Bernardo was on.That & his finishing. Someone on here suggested we may use Aké as a defensive left back & then Cancelo as an attacking right back & I could picture that, with Bernardo also playing on that side linking up & also helping him defend. The two play well together for Portugal & he brings Cancelo to life.

Ake lacks the attacking threat. I say we should start Mendy and bring on ake after half time or something since we don't have much choice.
Ake would help balance out Cancelo imo & make the defence viable.
If we play both, Cancelo & Mendy we have basically just two defenders, the centre backs, as Cancelo is maybe even worse than Mendy at defending. Ake would mean we have a kind of back 3 who can defend, hopefully making up for the lack of Walker's covering pace.
Ake's allegedly always fancied himself as a DM too. If he does the inverted FB thing, he's effectively learning some of that role and potentially auditioning himself as a Ferna replacement too.
Yeah he barely started tho. Can‘t expect shit if he doesn‘t play on the regular.Bernardo did play 34 of 38 league games last season, so no rush he is important player.
What if, what if Ake is better in DM and Rodri is better in CB? hmmm. It's a pity there aren't games where we could try out various stuff without it costing us.
Actually playing Ake as def mid could be another way of allowing Cancelo to get forward. In a 4231 system Ake could have KDB next to him, Bernardo, Foden, Sterling in front, two fullbacks attacking, so it could become almost like a 2431.
