You’ve got to look at Pep at times.
Bernardo came into the side on the left wing and was more involved over there in the 8-0 than Sterling was for months on end. Yet Bernardo was immediately dropped and Sterling picked no matter how many shockers he’d have in a row.
Bernardo hit a real patch of form in December and January, with excellent performances against Arsenal, Leicester and United. But then is dropped again at random and finds himself on the bench for a stretch.
Then was excellent away at Madrid yet after the restart it was like Pep forgot he played for us.
How he didn’t play against Lyon is not only a mystery but it fucking pissed me right off.
Bernardo’s season was all over the place and it wasn’t particularly his fault: Right wing one week, bench for two, left wing and excellent for a game, dropped again, midfield and MOTM another week, dropped again, right wing a few weeks later has a shocker and not seen for weeks, pops up randomly in a starting line up again in midfield and has another MOTM performance, dropped for three weeks, comes on as a sub and does fuck all, gets a start on the right and has a shocker, dropped......
He deserves better than that, especially after some of his performances in central midfield. Where we are slow, we lack energy and tenacity, we lack true creative ability and dribbling ability - he brings all that to us in midfield but it sometimes feels like Pep forgets he plays for us when he’s doing the line-up.
Agreed now DS has moved on he needs to start in CM , he is no Yaya and wouldn't it be god to have a 10 year younger version of him in our lineup and we need those qualities in midfield currently lacking but along with KDB is our best bet presently to fill those connections.
Clearly though we are deficient at CB ( quality defending wise ) , more quality in CM ( I think we are ok in DM if we get our back four sorted ) and we need another striker who can hold up , head and is deadly in the box.
