This is just stupid. As good as Bernardo is, Pep system doesn’t depend on any individual player. Last year Bernardo was very far from great and we still dominate. 4 years ago Bernardo was average and we broke all the records.

Sure we miss our two best midfielders, but today’s match was meaningless, so our players put little to no effort. If you think we wouldn’t have won this match if it was important…
He was exceptional from November to February when Kev was in and out, Which coincided with our phenomenal run and banked the title in effect… sometimes we miss what is in front of our nose, as he did the same when we retained the title 2 years earlier, the Liverpool game at home that season he produced as performance which is now happening every other week, a water carrier with all the trimmings!

17/18 -> played as RW most of the times (had an average season)
18/19 -> played as RCM most of the times (best player of the season) (PL title won)
19/20 -> played as RW most of the times (his worst season) (Second place)
20/21 -> played as RCM most of the times (one of the best players of that season) (PL title / CL Final)
21/22 -> plays as RCM regularly (three times winner of Etihad award in a row..) (First place right now in the PL and group stage..)

So it's obvious - Bernardo should be guaranteed that RCM place in the team and I'm sure he will stay. If you listen to that interview carefully, he mentions how he likes English football and his role as a midfielder - doing both defensive and offensive duties and thus, being a complete box-to-box player.

If Pep once again chooses to move him to that god damned RW position or I don't know play him somewhere else - he will be the first one to blame for the failure we will have during the upcoming months..

It's simple as that - give Bernardo RCM role and you have one of the best players in the world (if not the best..).. KDB can play False 9, LCM positions and still be at his best if he regains the form, but Bernardo needs this RCM position to shine. Yes, during this season he played number of matches very well as LCM (not as good as RCM, but still very high high level and quality compared to the other seasons when Pep tried him there), but goals like Watford aren't coming for him from that position and we definitely need them.

I agree the right sided 8 role should be exclusively his now.

Kev and Gundo can alternate between the other 8 and false 9.

This is not true though, as you know.

Bernardo played almost 50/50 RW and 8 in that season, and all of the 2019 half on the wing including the 14 wins on the trot that won us the title, playing at POTY standard in a side with KDB and David Silva as 8's

Your recollection of 20/21 is pretty suspect too, I'd suggest a browse through last years performance thread to remind yourself.

A lot of this is pretty pointless arguing anyway because whether Bernardo nominally lines up RW, false 9 or as an 8, he's rotating and doing the same job regardless. The side has moved absolutely miles away from the defined wingers of 2016-2019 so he's never going to play that role. It's really just a lot of shouting about nothing.

If Pep once again chooses to move him to that god damned RW position or I don't know play him somewhere else - he will be the first one to blame for the failure we will have during the upcoming months..

The bizarre need to make Guardiola a villain for playing Bernardo in a position he's played for most of his life is a really odd sub-current on this forum. Newsflash, Guardiola is always the first one to get the blame regardless of whose fault any defeat is.

Pep likes to use the wingers wide to keep the width during attack to make room for midfielders and full backs. While most of other teams use full backs to keep the width to let the winger shine.

Pep did not play wide winger every time - for example this season away game against Chelsea. Grealish and Jesus are more "inside" than the full back - and they both had a great game.

But when Pep plays the wingers wide, it is easier for non-inverted wingers like Foden on the LW to play a good game because he can cross with preferred foot - comparing to Sterling on the left wing. All the inverted winger struggles at times and have inconsistent performance - Grealish/Sterling/Mahrez... Bernardo is also an inverted winger if he plays right wing.

Technically it will win our game. But psychologically wingers carry more media attention than the full backs and their mentality drop down when the pundits banish them. I see many stupid review online saying "LOL Cancelo is a better LW than Grealish!" "Even Zinny plays better on the wing than Sterling!" ignoring the fact that our wingers make the sacrifice to get the full backs unmarked.

We have seen this mental effect on Sterling and Bernado when they play widely - and now Grealish seems to go down that route as well.

Pep should not play Bernado on the right wing again if we want to keep him.

Seems to be settled in the city and country..

If the problem was related to the lack of gaming time - that should and must be solved easily..

Hope he stays for the next 6-7 years at least <3
it wasnt , it was his personal life and not being able to see family due to covid , his girlfriend has since move d here

Average game for his recent standards but won a penalty and that’s how his influence can be measured..

Excellent analysis Datoia.

Would suggest Pep knows what he is capable of and where and unfortunately holes and fitness and game time for others who would fill this position require filling from the likes of Bernardo but yes all things allowing you play your players in the position that they like best and play best in.

Play Messi at RB and you will find he won't relish it much (LOL).
