Bernardo is not performing. Time he starts to up his game.

The list of underperforming players is growing:

Grealish
Mahrez
Foden
De Bruyne
Cancelo
Akanji
Bernardo

I don’t care what issues these players seemingly think they have or if they want a move away. Performances are not good enough. No one put a gun to their head to play for City. Time they got their shit together starting with Chelsea.

De Bruyne?

I thought you were being serious for a minute til I saw his name in there!

I love Bernardo to bits but this constant drip feeding to the press about moving on is getting tiresome. We all know his priority is the weather over trophies so time to give 100% till the end of the season then move on.

Bernardo has obviously been great for us - great at keeping possession, incredibly hard-working - but I do have a feeling that we've never quite had him perform as he is capable. If I think back to how he took us apart in the CL with Monaco, or the flashes of brilliance we've seen in various games (that amazing run vs Liverpool), the performances Pep seems to ask of him are quite disciplined and restrained. I sometimes wonder what he'd be like if he were let off the leash, and wish we'd see more of that.

I think it’s more about a new challenge than the weather although that always helps.

Going for three in a row was always going to be difficult. It’s been done six times before iirc? I think part of the reason Pep allowed Zin, Gabby and Sterling all to leave is because we’d won back-to-back titles and he didn’t want an unhappy squad. He wanted players who were committed to going out and making history. The trouble is, we haven’t hit our usual levels and haven’t managed to gel as a team since Haaland arrived. It’s very difficult to get that balance, but I trust Pep to get the squad committed and fighting for the title. Ultimately we’re on for 86pts on current form and that’s pretty much league winning in the pre-Pep era! Arsenal have just been a different level. We’re lucky it’s them and not the dippers because a decline is more likely and we can improve enough to catch them.

Bernardo would typically be one of the first names on the team sheet for me usually. Hard working, incredible at controlling the tempo and able to craft chances – he’s the perfect player in the middle of the park. He had a poor World Cup and he wasn’t great against Everton but this hard run of games might be the kick up the arse for all of the squad.

He has a lot of freedom with Portugal and he is not a great player for them. Bernardo is great and has moments of brilliance, but I genuinely think he is not close to bein a top 10 player in the world. If he was, he would not be here anymore, because the price we set for him was pretty reasonable (60-70m)
