Wouldn't be playing if we had anyone else at all. Just run into the ground over years of being expected to do everyone's running

I know this is probably the biggest factor but we could literally play anyone (except Gundo) in there and he be no worse than Bernie. I can’t believe that Pep finds this level of performance acceptable. It’s not like he’s in a spot of poor form. He has been fucking terrible for 18 months.

I'm just trying to think of the last time he did something on the pitch that impressed me. It must have happened recently because he plays every single game.

Maybe my memory is not so good...

You know maybe it's not because Pep likes him so much that he gives him 90 minutes every game, maybe he hates him so much that he wants to see him die from on the pitch from exhaustion, in any case it just doesn't make any sense.

Bernardo this season is somebody you need to watch live to understand and appreacite what he's doing. The guy along with kovacic is being asked to cover the ground of the 4 infront of them that aren't partaking in any defensive work. Bernardo runs his arse off every single game to cover the gaps and the vast majority of the time that work will never be seen by the tv audience.

I watched on the TV tonight too so I didn't see any of that in this game and from my perspective he had a fairly anonymous game but I'm at most games and when I am at the match and I see similar comments to that from tv watchers after I've just watched him do what I described above it makes me believe he put in a shift and a half tonight too.

Love him but there was a point in the second half that perfectly encapsulated where he's at. Foden was counter attacking in the 46th min and Bernardo tried to run and overlap, but he was so slow with getting up the pitch that Phil had to jog for him to catch up. By the time he did, Brentford had recovered and Bernardo just passed the ball straight at the first defender.

I don't doubt his effort or commitment, but he's physically a shadow of the player he was.

When you watched Damsgaard last night and then struggled to see what BSilva was doing, you can see the decline that’s happened to him.

Years of being the legs of the team, week-after-week, hardly every injured, always being made to be the man who puts the big shifts in, has really affected him. It’s like he’s running on empty now.

He’s been a fantastic player for us, but I think a new challenge in an easier league will be good to prolong his career.

We have ran the little fella into the ground, it's as simple as that.

All that running has practically zero effect. He doesn't win balls, does he?
In defence he gets back behind the attacker, that's ok.

His best contribution nowadays is holding up the ball in possession with any creative element whatsoever. That can be very useful but only if the team mates don't lose it a moment later...

Most frustrating to me is him being involved in quick counters. He stops every singly pacy movement in best positions to pass it back and do the same same. Don't pass to him on the break - never!
