Bernardooooooooooooo Silva,

Running down the wing, Silva

Makes the blue boys sing, Silva,

We're all going to Madrid!
Think we should do better and replace that last line
as it doesn't make much sense anymore.

Anybody?

Something like "Guard of honour? Where's my brew?"

Bit tough to judge Bernardo on last season as he was a victim of our tactics.

The more cautionary style of play last year, as we were more tactically focused on preventing transitions negatively impacted Bernardo’s game. Too many square balls, slowing play down and recycling possession.

Having Rodri back, a more box to box midfielder should hopefully allow the positives of his game to come to the fore, the clever, intelligent player we have seen regularly across previous seasons.

Bernardo just doesn't have the physicality to be a risk taker anymore. He has never had the vision or the passing skills of Gundogan or Rodri (not to mention KDB), but now that he has lost a lot of his physicality (and as a consequence his dribbling forward skill), this Bernardo will be next season Bernardo.

He was already the most risk-averse player in the second half of 23/24 season. It's not only last season.

I like him as a squad member, but I worry that he is Pep's favorite by far and he will play more than his level deserves. I don't think there is a world where he should start ahead of Cherki, Reijnders, Kovacic, Gonzales and Foden (if he comes back to his previous level). I don't mention Rodri because he does everything Bernardo does better than him, and then he does 20 other things Bernardo cannot do anymore.

It is is too soon to really write off Bernardo's overall decline and overall contribution. We have signed a couple more players who will impove the energy in the side and will help with Bernie's aging legs.

He has been a great servant for the club, but the revolution has already started. It is inevitable that some favourites will depart this summer.

Gonna be interesting to see how Nunes handles the loss of Bernardo ahead of him in place of a more attacking right side as expected next season if hes the RB. Silva is a massive support/link piece to him

Not sure he has ever relied on his physicality and yet has still managed to Influence many a football match.

Let’s see how the likes of Reijnders and Gonzalez adapt next year to the rigours of the Premier League and playing instead of Cherki will be for tactical reasons. I don’t see a world where he does not play before them, in a lot of matches, especially if we set up in a 4-3-3 or we tactically try to gain maximum control of the midfield by playing Bernardo on the right side of three.

Pep certainly see his value as he was almost an ever present last season as does the Portuguese national manager and Nations cup winners as he played in midfield, in the final, over players like Ruben/Joao Neves.

Has basically confirmed he's leaving next summer. Seems like he's planning to run his contract down and leave on a free. In that case, fair play to him. Will have been here nine years by the time he goes and what a player he's been.

I'd prefer Bernardo not start most games or to be sold.

But.

I will always be grateful for him amazing energy and commitment while a City player. Heart of a lion.

But.

He can do a fine job for us calmly distributing the ball in midfield but he can't be doing that just for the sake of it. It needs an end product and Pep needs to find a way to make something happen with all the possession. So if Bernardo stays I hope Pep has a better set of tactics than last year.

great news.

Could easily see him stay beyond. 9 seasons is a long haul tho. He can rightly stroll off into the sunset with pride.

Another incredible player. Who gave us everything.

It was clear since years his heart wants back to his beloved home Lisbon with his young family. That's where he wants to live.

Benfica wouldn't pay a fee, so only a loan possible or on a free.
He would have gone to Barca but they couldn't meet our demanded fee of 50m.
Any other new contract anywhere would make his return to Lisbon impossible.

Last season for us is fine, statue, farewell party, legend.
