20 | Bernardo Silva - 2025/26

If he’s probably gonna go next season I gen why has hd bed. Made captain this season because he can’t play every game and he is not the same player from 3 years ago . Should just be a squad player and certainly not captain .

I respectfully disagree with your comment that Bernardo isn't captain material. He has the same devotion to the club similar to players such as Zabba, Sergio, Vinnie, David, etc. And he doesn't 'pussy foot' being nice when things go wrong. Might stir up a few egos but that is one of the characteristics of being a leader - "you stuffed up, work out how to rectify the issue, and come back stronger".

How many of those players were MIA for 2 years? Previous to that (when playing well and wanted elsewhere) Bernie wanted to leave every summer. Oddly enough, he’s become far more committed to the club when he’s been churning out shite most weeks for 2 seasons. Funny that.

Nobody doubts what Bernie has done at the club overall, but rewarding him with the captaincy at this point of his City career is a ludicrous decision, it’s up there with giving it to Walker.

You pretend to know better than Pep what it takes to be captain. Based on your career in football? Have you ever managed? What?

Pep captained Barcelona and then managed some of the best teams and players in the world. Even if he isn’t intelligent or a natural leader (he is, though), he may know a thing or two about captaincy.

Pep is the greatest manager in history. I don’t pretend to know better than anyone, least of all him.

I have watched Bernie for the past two seasons though. I have also watched Pep consistently play him RWF and Bernie fail to deliver. I don’t think I have delusions of grandeur if I wonder, why the best manager in history, is continuing to play a guy RWF, who doesn’t consistently create or score goals.

Plenty thought it was time to thank Bernie for his service and for him to leave. Instead, after 2 terrible seasons, he is given the armband and it is baffling.

Like most, I am a firm believer in the captain being one of, if not the best player in the side and someone who more often than not, is going to be in the starting XI. The last 2 seasons say this isn’t Bernie. Now we have a similar scenario to the Walker situation, where Kyle was given the armband, even though for the most part he wasn’t deserving of his starting place in the side. That worked out well.

This season Bernie will need to find form he hasn’t had for a long time, or 1 of 2 scenarios will likely play out…

1. He is playing shite most weeks but continues to be picked because he is captain. Fantastic.
2. Our captain is on the bench more often than not. Great.

I guess we will just have to hope he’s been having a rest for 2 years and is ready to step it up again. Maybe Pep is showing his genius and the captaincy is the kick up the arse Bernie has long needed. Fingers crossed.

I understand your concerns. But I think Pep understands them too.

It might be the case that Pep wants from the captain specific things related to leadership and the communication between the team and the manager. Put differently, the more important role of the captain is before and after games than on the pitch.

Virtually all problems we can notice are likely things Pep himself knows pretty well.

Listening to things Bernardo has said in recent interviews gives me a sense of he’s the right man to skipper this team and take us forward again. The guy is a serial winner and he’s not afraid to speak up when required and you won’t her stories of him waving his cock about like the last idiot. Total respect.

We are having the same fateful dinner again. The night Walker became captain and set the club back two years, we still haven't recovered from that. Bernardo will cost us much, much more than you can imagine, although he is currently a smaller problem than Gundogan. By staying at the club he will permanently sabotage all the fluidity and creativity of the midfield that we need to have. Foden and Cherki are already suffering from his existence. The guys who are the future of the club should not suffer because of Bernardo who brings nothing. Pep Guardiola has gone crazy, he will use him as an unquestionable starter in 2025, and he looks like he is not going to work (as is Gundogan). Bernardo would be useful if he only came on in the last minutes when we need to close the game
Is this a serious post? Too much in there to question

One of our most intelligent players. Yes, he is painfully slow but I have a feeling he might have one hell of a season this year.

Spot on. And it shows how much Pep appreciated how often Bernardo was available last season to drag us through to the end whilst a lot of players were hanging out in the physio room, avoiding responsibility for the results and the trouble the team was having on the pitch

Bernardo never gave much away but two things he was happy to mention was about you cannot relax (the inference being players became a complacent) and about looking after themselves better to reduce injuries.

I think too many that is not surprising.

He'll get pretty close to David Silva's PL appearance record for us this season. Think he'll fall just short, but he'll leave no.2 unless he gets crocked.
