20 | Bernardo Silva - 2025/26

It pains me to say this but he is now(!) absolutely fucking useless.

Offers absolutely zero. Doesn’t attack. Can’t defend (running around isn’t defending). Spends his time sliding into space, lying on the floor or needlessly hoofing the ball when he’s not under pressure.

Should’ve been shown out the door the same way Ederson, Gundo and Akanji have tried to be. Not made club fucking captain!

Christ.

He was done 2 years ago. I said earlier in the thread that making him captain was a huge mistake, got grief on here for it and yet I’ve seen nothing to change my mind.

He should have left in the summer, not that I have any confidence that we would have replaced him with anyone remotely decent.

The team looks just like Bernie…tired, negative, boring and unfortunately…well and truly past it.

Should have gone in the summer after an appalling season.

Instead he was made captain.

Why do people expect things to change and improve from last season when we pull tricks like this?
Gundogan was performing better than him in final couple of months of last season, as incredible as that sounds.

Making him the club captain is one of the most bizarre decisions I've seen in a long long time

Been poor since the treble winning season, and will be gone next summer, and yet we now make him club captain

Oh and can someone explain to me why the fuck was he marking Dunk on that free kick ?

What fucking difference does captaincy make. I’d be more concerned about how’s he not had a good performance in years

Gundogan’s legs have obviously gone as well, but the difference is that Gundogan actually stays in his position and at least tries to make something happen.

Whereas Bernado spends the game knocking aimless passes back and forth with our centre halves and running around in circles just outside our 18 yard line.

He shouldn’t be anywhere near the team.

We did exactly the same with Walker. He couldn’t get in the side and wanted to leave. We made him captain.

So you agree he shouldn't have been made captain then

You don't make a player who hasn't had a good performance in years, become captain, do you?

Yes Gundo could still pass forward and make runs despite his decline.

Bernardo has mastered the ability to look busy while doing absolutely nothing. Slows down every single attack, takes 10 touches to play a simple 5 yard pass. Creates nothing in attack and his legs are gone. Finished years ago

I couldn’t care less, I wouldn’t even notice.

Well add it to the list of fucking bizarre decisions been made since the treble

Just reading the thread I can see I’m in a very small minority on this, but I think he did a lot of good things today.

With him and Rodri in midfield it gave so much control, esp in that first half, in terms of keeping and recycling possession. He has incredible ball control and can recieve all sorts of passes pinged in to him and control them in tight spaces. He also doesn’t panic when we are passing it out.
Him and Rodders just have that control and skill level that used to be the norm in our squad (eg when Gundo and KDB were also on the pitch) that made the way we dominated look so fluid. It’s not the norm amongst enough of the squad any more.

He was also really proactive and energetic, doing work at the back and in trying to get attacks going in the final third. I honestly don’t think he was anywhere near our biggest issue today.

Again we had no control all second half, it wasn't all his fault but he didn't give us anything.
