20 | Bernardo Silva - 2025/26

Stones + Bernardo or anyone not named Nunes with Bernardo is just making us weaker for whatever purpose. Teams don’t need to defend the right side and can fully focus on the middle and the left side. But it’s about control that currently doesn’t even win us games but what do I know.
At least he will be done end of season . Last few weeks we’ve come on leaps and bounds but pep still shows blind loyalty tk players who can no longer cut it and it’s causing problems and as some poster posted Dias will sure as shit be the new captain even though he shouldn’t be near the team . .

When a player has been absolute shite for 2 seasons, they are the usual suspect. We all know how great he was 4 years ago but that only gives you a pass for so long.
Disagree he's been shite for 2 seasons.
Not been perhaps as effective, as Pep uses him as a utility player and he does as instructed only now. Used to have a bit more freedom and not hugging the touchline.

Sadly he has regressed a bit physically at the same time as the sport has passed players like him by completely. I am not even sure he has regressed physically, as much as the players around him have been slowly changed into one genetically superior mutant after another. Power and pace rules the game at the moment, only the players that can both keep up with that and also add individual brilliance with the ball at that pace stands out. See his compatriots Vitinha and Neves who are both way more dynamic in todays game than Bernie

If the way football were played were still about probing for space and keeping the ball ticking until the opposition made a mistake in their organisational structure Bernie would still be king even in his curent state. And considering were the best in the world at pinning teams back in those days those type of players got a lot of advantage from that. But todays football is all about proactively trying to force the opposition into making mistakes, getting the ball quicker to your front players and then working the transitions both ways way more significantly than before. In that environment someone like Bernardo who wants to cut inside after receiving the ball, slow the game down and look for control sticks out as a sore thumb.

I think Bernardo still has the mind, attitude and ability of a top player, but I think we're fast approaching a tipping point where his body simply can't fucntion at the top of the game.

He's been the slowest player in the league for a good 18 months now, and with every passing game he feels weaker against increasingly powerful midfields. I think he probably should already have gone, and he certainly should go at the end of this season.

Bernardo is one of my all time City favorites! I love his passion both for the squad and for winning along with his disdain for the opposition during the match,
That said, his days of playing on the RW are long gone, like over 2 years past due. Pep continues to shoehorn him in there because where else could he start? He can still do a job in midfield but no way he's first choice on this squad. It will be interesting to see what Pep does when Cherki and Marmoush are back healthy.
Would have liked to see Oscar Bobb get at least a 30 minute run yesterday, especially since he looked lively at the weekend v. Burnley. JMO

The best thing he does for us these days is sit alongside Rodri or Nico and do the running for them. Thats the only role he should play. Why he's on the right wing is completely beyond me.
Problem with that is when he plays in the middle he usually pushes on forward right next to Haaland at times when we'd be better off if he just sat deep and not attack because he offers nothing offensively.

As harsh as it sounds, probably relieved he's leaving next summer. Been an incredible servant for us, but across the last 12 months been really poor for most of it. Some of his pressing last night was completely brain dead. Especially with what was going on behind him and next to him.

As good as he was. What is there actually to replace at the moment
Exactly this great servant race is run. Not a player who you need to worry about “ replacing” more about getting new blood in so we are firing on all 11 cyclinders ….. Bobb is far better don’t want to replace Silva we need to improve on what he offers

Has been very good for us, but done at this level, certainly for a team with our ambitions. He was ineffective last season too, should have sold him two years ago.

Can you imagine how much better we’d be now if we’d sold him two years ago and got Declan Rice or Bellingham? That’s the level we need to be looking at for a new midfielder, don’t know who though, must be somebody we’re scouting hopefully.
