20 | Bernardo Silva - 2025/26

His introduction yesterday was instrumental in our being able to close the game out almost completely unruffled. Non stop motion, never a pass wasted and his judgment as to when to run with the ball and when to recycle it, was near perfect.
He might not have quite the same indefatigable energy as 2 or 3 years ago, but we’ll still miss him when he’s gone. Club legend

It was only a sub appearance, but for me was a MOTM performance.

The whole performance of the team changed as soon as he came on the pitch. I thought he was superb and everything he did from movement to control to dribbles to passes, was spot on throughout. He gave us control of the game (don’t think Everton had a meaningful attack after BSilva came on).

Captain’s performance.

This is exactly how you use a player like Bernado in his latter years. Bit like some of the Liverpool sides we went up against in recent times. Blitz them off the bat to try and get in front, then bring on players like him who will just keep the ball or pass it around you for the rest of the game.

Had a big impact on the game and his introduction gave us more control in midfield. He won't play every game but in midfield rather than on the wing he can still be an asset to the team.

Which is how it should have been with him and Gundogan last year but the injuries and lack of transfer activity killed us. They weren't supposed to play 50+ games. Yet they were still the reliable choices when we needed to secure 3rd.

Bernardo still has plenty to offer in the squad, as long as he isnt flogged 90mins twice a week.

There's still a significant role for him this season. If he starts, pull him early enough and reinforce the midfield with Kovacic, Rodri or Gonzalez. If he comes off the bench, bring him on to get/maintain control if we start playing at a pace we can't cope with.

Much better in midfield, if he puts in performances like this consistently than maybe he's not so finished yet, just don't put him on the right wing again.

I feel relaxed whenever he gets the ball

I know he will control the ball, tempo and make the right decision.

I will probably have a lot of dissenters with this opinion on Bernardo tonight.
Yes, his stats were excellent and he covered a lot of ground. Also, he took his goal well.
But, how many of his passes were forward ?
How many times does he get into dangerous positions (apart from his goal ?).
The midfield 3 tonight had no visible #10.
In the second half particularly, those backward or even sideways passes by Bernardo, were putting his teammates under pressure.
Finally, he is not a cool enough character to be the captain.
He has been an excellent player for City, but this must be his final season...
